What's the plural of Solvil et Titus?

Post by tikkathree »

Solvil et Titi?

Anyway the pepsi bezel version arrived today and has been on my wrist all day. Here it is back off and alongside it's black bezel brother.

Amazingly like Seiko 7309 watches: can anyone shed light on whether in fact they are Seiko made under licence in Switzerland and simply badged as Solvil et Titus?

They are remarkably like the Seikos aren't they! I am also going for the Titi as the plural.

I believe their biggest market is Asia , so i think that model is a Swiss made watch aimed at the Asian market . Not the same model but i think this one interesting.

Well, at the price I don't mind the joke if this particular nugget of 'net knowledge turns out to be fact rather than anything else (and how can we tell?)...

These Solvil and Titus watches are not from the old Swiss company; they are rebadged Chinese watches using old out of business brand names.
The watches are often sourced from the Fijuta company(which will put anything you like on the dial. Example of the base watch in your picture...
these have various Chinese movements in them according to what they are advertised as. This model with Seiko on it comes with a Chinese copy of the 7s26. I imagine that yours has the HX6300 or similar 2836 copy with fake stamping(actually, the ETA logo will be etched).
For one thing there's still an interesting story. Hadn't I already wondered as much? If someone's been churning out fakes signed on the rotor as well as the dial as Swiss made and the second hand price is around fifty quid I've got to wonder how big is the global market is for these as fakes.

(The letters CW are clearly visible behind the balance wheel... I'm just saying :silent: )

Are they any better or any worse than the superficially identical Seiko watches which are modded and touted all over the 'net? I can't say but the one on the right I've been wearing happily for over a year. I suppose if I wanted to wear it into the shower or for swimming I'd have it pressure tested first but, hey, good lume, £50 or thereabouts, nice looking case, what more can I need in a beater?

These ones are a different kettle of fish Bernie... When Omega stopped making the f300 tuning fork watches, Titus bought all their old stock of cases and bracelets (and a lot of movements as well) and stuck their own dials, hands, case backs and clasps (with logo) on the Omega bits. There are quite a few different models from Titus that look remarkably like Omega F300s - because the are 90% Omega. They're not an homage or a fake, they're leftovers of the real stuff. They sell for a lot less than the originals too, so you can get an Omega, I mean a Titus, I mean... whatever for a good price. A mate of mine has a couple of them, they're pretty good stuff...

Yes, they did. The same movement was also used by Longines, Certina, Universal Geneve and surprisingly, even by IWC.
