Very nice, Serlo and AVO!
It's ok - when they need to, there are instructional videos on Youtube (that's what someone I know did!)bspj wrote:Thank you both for these lovely photos.
The sad thing is, Andreas, very few men in the UK can tie a bow nowadays!

Capital chap, capital! I've been self tying bow ties daily since about 1985.
They never trail in my coffee.

Many thanks tempusmaximustempusmaximus wrote:That Smiths look's fantastic Clarky , look's to be in excellent condition for it's age .The leather NATO compliment's it very well , perfect looking combination.

I have been wearing this one for a couple of days now, and it is keeping good time -1 second in 2.5 days.
I'm not normally one for non mechanical watches but I just had to have a hummer in my collection as they were only made for a short period, but are significant in the history of horology.

Vintage watch of the day (30 years+)
As I am wearing blue trousers (not pictured), my only vintage watch with a blue dial may keep me company today:

No hectic second hand is going to tell me that time is passing today. I'm on a shopping spree (no watches!!!).

Re: Vintage watch of the day (30 years+)
The first dynamics (1968-73) had two subtly different designs - yours is the earlier version made between 1968 and about 1970. The later one was a slightly more rounded and polished oval made from about 71-73 and used different movements 10xx for the men's - can't recall what was used in the women's ones.asqwerth wrote:I don't know its exact age, because I took a risk with this watch and bought it without having seen the movement and insides.
...snip...
As I don't know the movement's serial number, I can only guess that it's dated from between 1968 to 1972, being one of the earliest Dynamic designs..
I don't know if this movement has the same date setting method as the 565 in my Dynamic, but with it the first crown out position adjusts the time, the second (outmost) position adjusts the date using a push-pull method between position 1 and 2. Is yours the same?asqwerth wrote:...snip...
I didn't bother to set the date beyond just winding the crown back and forth between 9 and 12 o'clock a few times to make sure it worked.
Nice watch by the way, a classic.

Yup, I know mine is the earlier bullseye dial + textured grain on case bezel, I just didn't know the exact years they were made.gaf1958 wrote:The first dynamics (1968-73) had two subtly different designs - yours is the earlier version made between 1968 and about 1970. Nope. Unlike the calibre 565, the ladies' 681 (most likely model but it could be 680 or 682, too) doesn't have quickset date. You have to wind the crown back and forth between 9 and 12 o'clock for every day you want to advance the display.I don't know if this movement has the same date setting method as the 565 in my Dynamic, but with it the first crown out position adjusts the time, the second (outmost) position adjusts the date using a push-pull method between position 1 and 2. My boy's size Omega Seamaster has the same/similar movement so I was familiar with how it worked.

I like it a lot and am glad I didn't try to pursue the men's model. It would have been much more expensive and I think the chances of it being franken or refinished would have been higher.
Plus, I got it on the original steel bracelet rather than just a strap, so it really was a great punt.
