I followed Avo's example today and wore my pocket watch at school. In Germany you will rarely come across teachers wearing a jacket, waistcoat and bow tie, so this has made an impression.

And yes... All the students wanted to listen to it. This watch has triggered a lot of positive remarks: "That's cool Mr S." (Yes, wearing a 100-year-old watch makes you cool, hip and trendy... and a bit dandyish :D ) "Now school feels like an old black and white movie", "Where can you buy watches like this?"

Very nice. It does have that effect. I don't have a picture but my Waltham hunter was worn today with suit and academic dress for our school carol service...and I got to sing Darke's "In the Bleak Midwinter" and Tavener's "The Lamb" with the choir...wonderful bass parts.

Thank you both for these lovely photos.
The sad thing is, Andreas, very few men in the UK can tie a bow nowadays! :?

I don't need a mirror anymore. And I have got plenty bow ties to choose from:

And they're all from the UK.

@Avo: That Waltham is stunning. I hope it did not steal the show.

The pedagogue pair have come up trumps!

(I too have a party trick of not using a looking glass, learned years ago in mess games when I was a solja)

Surely no gentleman would need a looking- glass?

Or in my case I am not a gentleman and still don't use one....

At staff college we had a port rule.
Anyone who wore an elastic thingy had to buy port for the table.
But a false challenge meant having to buy port for the table.
So we spent HOURS retying to try to look 'too perfect' in the hope of challenge.
I went and bought an elastic thing (what an embarrassment) and wore it all night unchallenged, until I took it off!

Ah, well.
ANY port in a storm.
