Pretty sure I have properly decoded the serial number, giving this a manufacture date of April 1980.
Time and money? I’ve spent most of mine on booze and women. The rest I just wasted…

Re: Vintage watch of the day (30 years+)
In 1942, my father enlisted in the US Army, served in Europe and then part of the occupation after the war. He purchased this watch in 1949 at the PX in Germany. The PX only received a few Rolexes every month and they sold out really fast. My father got the clerk to hold one of the watches until payday. The watch ended up costing a few dollars more than a Second Lieutenant’s pay at that time, so he had to borrow a few dollars from a friend in order to buy the Rolex.
My father wore this Rolex 6031 throughout the Korean War, to his retirement from the military in the late 60s and until he passed in 1989. He would have been 103 this month.
Now you know that I got my watch obsession honestly.

^^^ STUNNING!
And yet today, to purchase Rolex from Military paycheck you would have to be wetworks undercover operative.
