Finally I can join in

Got a 'birth' watch a couple of months back (with great help from dancematt) - it has been to Christian (watchguy) and arrived back today - looks great, will just take a little getting used to as it's easily the smallest watch I own...a King Seiko Hi-Beat 5621-7020 from 1972:

It's got the odd fleck on the sunburst dial, and light scratching on the case, but in general it's in good nick for a 45yo watch - and it's now clean and running like a dream

^^^that looks cracking Steve, congratulations on getting your birth year watch

From the look & condition of the watch, you can't be a day over 21, right?

Cheers.

I wish Patrick.....

Only downside was replacing a scratched crystal - these are 'front exit', and the glass comes in a metal ring. However, they are really hard to get hold of, and come in two varieties - gold or steel. Guess which one isn't readily available any more...

I got a gold one on the auction site, and Christian tried to to seperate the ring fronm the glass - except it broke. A second one was luckily found and ordered from the auction site, only this time it wouldnt seperate from the ring when left in acetone...and in the course of trying to cut the surplus ring from the glass, it broke again.

So it is now has a generic crystal, and my wallet is significantly lighter for original useless glass...

If anyone is interested, pics can be found here

Thanks, asqwerth. A watch specifically for yacht racing. Counts down rather than up, and the small circular cutouts give a visual in five minute increments (blue, orange, black) that correspond to the starting guns. Three hands work normally, with the seconds hand resetting with the colored disc via plunger.
