Yes! Cracker on the Antiques Roadshow last night. Solid gold half hunter with stopwatch and chime, about 1905, valued at about the same as a new SS Rolex GMT.
Much as I admire the Rolex, I'd go for the old'un.

That half hunter was just stunning. When you take the minute repeater and the chrono into consideration, I thought that it was bloomin cheap. Both mine and the present Memsahib's guesstimate were extremely north of the experts.
Good size to make a wristwatch out of though! Weld on a couple of lugs and away you go!

Re: The Pocket Watch Gallery
Not a high value item but this is my Ingersoll pocket watch, inherited from my grandfather.
I had been very puzzled how he could get his hands on an American pocket watch, but with a little digging I've found he may have had a connection to the Smiths factory in South Wales - Smiths with Ingersoll formed the 'Anglo Celtic Watch Company' in the late 40s. So that may well be it

Today's pocket watch is an Omega from 1900
Sadly it's in very poor condition, but I had to take it with me.

Thanks. It is a v good quality case; re polished, but being 9ct is more robust than purer gold.Kip wrote:Looks like a well cared for piece. A real beauty. Congratulations!

This is begging for a "reprise". Lovely watch symphony (or opera?).

Tempo giusto.
That is very fine indeed, Steve. I look forward to seeing photos of it in the wild, though possibly not with Villebrequin shorts!

I am pleased to record that there has been no water ingress whatsoever in the Benson so I do not need to go to Ludgate Hill in high dudgeon.

I'm not surprised there was no water ingress. You have completely removed the aqueous by-product.

He was a bit old fashioned and a former naval officer, so I thought a pocket watch, bowler (coke) hat and umbrella....to evince how army officers do it!
