70's style watch case shape??

Post by chriswt »

What if any is the common name for the case shape of these 70's watches?

I'm really starting to love the retro shape.

Sorry Mr Rick I hope you don't mind me using your photo as an example, such a stunning watch (...off to ebay now to investigate availability!!)

Cushion cases.

Here's a classic article from the chuck Maddox resource: http://www.chronomaddox.com/heuer/artic ... ticle.html

The cusion case is coming back with some manufacturers - eg http://www.pageandcooper.com/autodromo- ... lack-dial/

Whilst not a patch on Mr Rick's Heure, I do rather like the look.

Personal thing, but I can't stand the majority of '70s cases, hands and dials. I like the Omega Dynamic but that's about it.
Yes, I know the Heuers are fantastic watches, and I'd love an early Carrera.

I agree 70's watches were not the most attractive, there were the exceptions and none more so than HEUER.

Most things were pretty bad in the 70's!

I used to think the pillow/cushion case watches were awful but I'm slowly finding myself stopping and pausing at more 70's style watches when searching on Ebay etc. Especially that stunning HEUER.

It might be in part down to restoring and wearing Dad's old Omega. Used to hate the thing and thought it typical that that out of all the Omega's he could have bought and owned in the 70's it was this one!

Now of course its won me over.

I grew up in the 70s and while there were many things to dislike about the design and styling in that decade the same is true of every other decade. I do like 70s watches and the cushion style, I especially like that lovely electronic Constellation. It's a cracker and I'm glad you're wearing your Dad's watch. It makes it even more special.

Remember these designs from living in the 70s - never owned one. Thought they were horrid.

Another "modern" watch that has that 70's pillow look is the Glycine Airman SST

See http://www.pageandcooper.com/glycine-airman-sst-12/

There is also a video link on that site where the shop owner gives his view of the SST
...there is a chrono version too, if you like those
