Forum software upgrade May 21

Post by Kip »

The Forum will be doing a software upgrade on Thursday 21st May 2020. The forum will be down from approximately 12:00 – 17:00 BST (11:00-16:00 GMT) (7:00-12:00 EDT). We expect it to be much quicker, but a hour window provides contingency for any issues. We suspect it may only take 2-3 hours.

The forum will remain online and reachable during this time to regular visitors and forum members but will solely display a “Scheduled Maintenance” type message, navigation any further will not be possible.

Thank you for your patience during this upgrade.

The upgrade is now completed, and all seems well. It took a bit longer than we thought, but we looking good.

Notable changes:

We have changed the Forum banners to reflect a current CW model.

Several software bugs were repaired as well as the “Remember me” function for passwords. Hopefully all will be good here now.

The bug with the Photo of the Month has also been repaired so we will be able to get back on track with selections.

You may notice that the CWArchives are now posted on the Portal page. Both the Portal page banner and the Archive link on the Board Index page will take you directly to the new CWArchives. Sorry this took so long, but there were some technical difficulties getting this done properly.

Please advise us should you notice any issues.

Thanks for your patience during this upgrade.

Excellent, thanks Kip. The “remember me” fix will be greatly appreciated on my part, as it never did...

Apologies for my contrarian view, but I think the visual changes aren't great - both on desktop and on phone.

I appreciate this maybe down to the theme the forum uses and what functions it easily allows, but having the CW archive banner the same size as the main forum banner looks amateur to me. It would look better if the archive banner was half the height, and/or positioned lower on the screen, perhaps above the 3 columns for blogs, gallery and archives.

So I would say it would be better if the sections from top to bottom are:

Forum Banner
Search
Menu
Photo & Topics
Archives Banner
Blogs & Gallery

I do believe the new archive should be promoted (I suggested it last year), and I also accept the 'upgrades' are not actioned by the mods but visually it's a no from me.
Current collection incl Alpina, Breitling, Bulova, Casio, Citizen, Eterna, Oris, Rado, Raymond Weil, Rolex, Seiko, Tag, Timex, Tudor & Victorinox.

Chris
