C60 Trident MK4 ?

Post by Geefiasco »

So tempted to pull the trigger on the C60 MK3, but I wondered if the newer MK4 is around the corner? Am I right thinking the life cycles are around 1.5 - 2 years?

I get where you’re coming from. A mk4 will certainly come at some point, but I haven’t heard any rumors. Maybe someone else in the know will chime in.

HOWEVER, my philosophy is buy what you like. If the mk3 strikes your fancy and you have the cash, buy it! Then buy the mk4 too if you like it when it comes out!

The C60 Trident Mk3 has been out for about 18 months and I think you'll find the 'life cycle' is a lot longer than 1.5 - 2 years.

Why not check it out in the Timeline within the CWArchive.

The Mark 1 was around for about 5 years and the Mark 2 for over 4 years.

Mark 3 came out in May 2019. And it's obviously very popular.

Check it all out on the CW Archive

Not until 2023 or later.

Listening between the lines in some interviews with Mike France, it seems that CW is waiting for a pretty substantial movement upgrade cycle from Selitta to bear fruit.

ALLEGEDLY, Selitta has some new generation movements coming in the next few years.

Well, the only significant upgrade would be a co-axial escapement, surely? Or are they going to slow the beat rate and chuck a load of plastic parts at it to get a bigger power reserve?

Not knocking Selitta by the way. I have them in a few watches and they have been faultless. If it ain´t broke....etc etc.

Keep in mind, you like the current version, the new one might come out and you hate it. Then it's gonna depend on stock and used prices to get this one.

Newer is not always better. Case in point, I actually prefer the Omega Seamaster 300m from mid/late 90s to early 2000s to the current one.

If you pull the trigger on the mk3 you will not be disappointed. You can never keep up with the new models coming out.

Assuming the C60 remains a CW standard, then over time there will probably be a version 4,5,6, all of which will have pluses and minuses. Given the timing, I would be inclined to wait for the sale first, but in general I would either buy the current version if I liked it, or try to source a good condition used model, if I prefer that. There really isn't likely to be much wrong with a recent pre owned watch.

For what it's worth, have a current gen c60 bronze, and I really do like the design. I have no issue with the placement of the logo.
