King John was compelled by his barons to sign Magna Carta on June 15 at Runnymede. Kind of a big deal...

It doesn’t matter. 2020 feels like the end of days anyway!

1225: The Magna Carta is reaffirmed (for the third time) by Henry III of England, in return for issuing a property tax and I’m still paying for it today.

If I took my last post count and traced the number of days back in history I discovered that it took me to the 14th of May, 1959. On that day, a radio signal was bounced off the moon for the first time, being sent from Jodrell Bank to a radio telescope in the USA.

Well, it’s a way for us high-volume posters to join in!

I find that quite fascinating! And it’s one of the things about the UK that I find so incredibly interesting g - that things I’ve learned as history still have meaningful legal ramifications and relevance in the UK today. The history geek in me just gets all giddy inside thinking about that.

Taking my post count as 2554 prior to this I'll make it 2.5.54 so I'm wondering why the adults in my household are dashing around. Then I realise that they're preparing for my 1st birthday party in a couple of days.

Alternatively it's the year 2554 and the 200th anniversary of the human's successful battle against Skynet (hope I'm allowed to use this?) is being celebrated worldwide. Globally the humans have made huge efforts over the previous 2 centuries to re-construct the "old" world as told by survivals of previous generations and finally they've realised how much they now need to take care of it and the numerous surviving species in it.

Well at least there is plenty of scope for your 1707 post. :)

In September, Switzerland became an independent country, by seceding (more or less) from the Holy Roman Empire.

They celebrated no doubt by making watches and secret bank accounts

In this year, on November 10th, Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, was born in Dijon. As Duke of Burgundy, he sought to elevate his position to that of king over a contiguous Burgundian state. His death at the Battle of Nancy left Burgundy in the hands of his daughter Mary. Her marriage to Maximilian of Habsburg, later Holy Roman Emperor, would lead to a French-Habsburg rivalry that would have an impact on Europe for centuries to come.

Side note: Dijon is my favorite place in the world.

Dijon is very nice, must agree. Nancy also well worth a visit (when and if we ever can again).

The Spanish Armada:

DRAKE he's in his hammock an' a thousand mile away,
(Capten, art tha sleepin' there below?)
Slung atween the round shot in Nombre de Dios Bay,
An' dreamin' arl the time o' Plymouth Hoe.
Yarnder lumes the island, yarnder lie the ships,
Wi' sailor lads a-dancin' heel-an'-toe,
An' the shore-lights flashin', an' the night-tide dashin'
He sees et arl so plainly as he saw et long ago.

Drake he was a Devon man, an' ruled the Devon seas,
(Capten, art tha sleepin' there below?),
Rovin' tho' his death fell, he went wi' heart at ease,
An' dreamin' arl the time o' Plymouth Hoe,
"Take my drum to England, hang et by the shore,
Strike et when your powder's runnin' low;
If the Dons sight Devon, I'll quit the port o' Heaven,
An' drum them up the Channel as we drummed them long ago."
