To Repair or Not

Post by Foxman50 »

So i have purchased one of these, 2nd hand obviously but as new condition, still had all stickers on.

I have to say its one of those watches that images do not do justice, i think it’s by far the best looking watch i have, though limited collection.

Anyway i have noticed that the lower hour hand does not stop even though the second and minute hands do, the reset works fine but the hour will then start to count. Is this an annoyance, not really but think I’d prefer it to be static which I’m guessing it should be right.

Should the seller have informed me, yes, am i glad he didn’t, yes, as it may have deterred me from the purchase. It still has 4 years CW warranty so no rush to do anything about it, but as it’s in mint condition im concerned about returning it for repair in case it gets marked.

What are the forums thoughts, suppose this is more to do with the quality of CW’s service.

On another note, if i leave it as is will it have any wear implications on the mechanicals or reduce the power reserve.

Advice would be appreciated.

I would take advantage of their warranty if I were you. You could always wear it til it needs servicing and have it fixed then too.

This is a 7750 movement watch isn't it?

I'd get it settled whilst well within warranty. For me a chronograph function which is unreliable is no good at all.

Correct!

Here’s the CW Archive reference.

I would say definitely get it sorted.

I’ve had a couple of good ones. The watch developed a fault, I sent it back, it came back sorted.

Just take good detailed photos before you send it and then make a comparison when you get it back.

You can always send the photos with the repair order so it's documented the condition its in. If it's different afterwards, then you should completely expect them to make it right.

I've had quite a few watches go into CW for service / repair / battery change over the years. All have had the work completed satisfactorily and the watches returned in good condition.

To give a balanced viewpoint, I have read occasional reports on here of minor issues, which CW with good grace have rectified.

If you do a search on the Interweb, you will be able to find reports of issues with other manufacturers, including the likes of Rolex and Omega.

That’s a great idea, obvious but hadn’t thought of it. Cheers

That’s why i’m reluctant to send it, it can get lost in transit, damaged in transit, damaged at CW. It is no longer available, though maybe they have spares should it go wrong. Maybe i worry to much.

Maybe I’m just a little ray of sunshine. I’m sure we could have a fascinating philosophical discussion over a pint sometime.

Oh, and when I had drunk half of it my glass would definitely be half full.
