Is it just me mourning the demise of 43mm?

Post by IanKelly63 »

I've got 3 CWs, two 43mm and one 42mm.

I know it's only a tiny difference, but in my head, the 42mm seems so much smaller.

Is it just me?

I agree that the Mark3 42mm version does appear quite a lot smaller than the previous Mark2 43mm version.
However with my wrist size being about 18.5cm in circumference, I much prefer the 42mm size as it feels more comfy and I think it looks better sized for me.
I realise that this is very much down to personal preference.

I agree that the 42mm do size quite differently. I was surpised how my Mk 3 looks compared to the Mk 2 - definitely smaller. That said, i actually prefer the Mk 3 sizing and proportions

Yep, me too!

I've got a Junghans Meister at 41.9 which looks bigger than my MK3 CW... and I guess this is down to bezel/dial ratios... there's pretty much no bezel on the Meister.

I also preferred the proportions (appearance) of the MK2 but recognise the uplift in quality on the MK3.

Absolutely fair on how the MK2 were versus the Mk3. Ironically I find the Mk1 wears differently as well.

.....if only there was a C60 Mk2 43mm in the sales corner

To my mind to get a C60 Trident Mk3 to wear with the same wrist presence as the 43mm C60 Trident MkII, the Mk3 will need to be 44mm or even possibly 45mm (43mm will not be enough).

Hi Guy,

I'm interested to know why you think that. Is there a difference in the visible dial diameters MK2 v MK3? Or rather, is the bezel on a MK3 deeper than a MK2.

44mm I could live with, 45mm is dinner plate territory :-)

Nothing scientific about it Ian.

Just my perception, having seen and owned/own both MkII and Mk3 Trident.

Basic premise is that the light catcher case design of the Mk3 makes the watch appear svelte (smaller) than a MkII. Thus if both had 43mm cases the Mk3 would still wear smaller.

Make sense?

Guy

Personal opinion - I wish all models were available in 38mm sizes.

What first drew me to the CW brand was their willingness to provide watches in the smaller size, despite the trend for larger sizes. I can wear most watch sizes (I do draw the line at anything over 42mm though) and would love to see their 44mm sizes reduces to 40mm and under.

No, I don’t miss the 43mm sizes. But that is because I’ve never owned one. And that is because I can’t wear one in comfort.
