Cannot imagine they would, they would have the name copyrighted I would think, and a name change now would destroy years of brand building.

MF is looking to grow the brand, not start from the ground up.

Yes, surely if there is to be another 'competing Ward' brand with the man himself involved, then retaining "Christopher Ward" is not viable?

Depending on the nature of the products this new brand could sweep up a whole segment of buyers who feel disenfranchised by the new direction of CW.

One to watch, ahem, with interest - I have signed up for the prelaunch e mail notification as well. "twould be rather ironic if the CW forum becomes a prime publicity platform for Ward Bros!

Maybe we need a new thread in Other Brands, or maybe a new sub heading entitled The Other Ward

This could turn out to be the most interesting topic on this forum in a very long time......

Cheers,

Paul

Oh...I dunno

https://dubaimonsters.com/blog/brands-t ... me-change/

to my mind CW could move to the two flags and SH branding e.g.

SH
Calibre 21
calibre 200
Calibre 201 etc...

It's got my attention!

Not least because Wera absolutely ruled at providing superlative customer service and was a big personality in the earlier days of this brand.

Frankly if Wera said Pete this is a brick but it's nutritious I'd be asking for a spoon!

I guess you could call this a formal announcement.

Christopher Ward moves on from the eponymous watch company he co-founded

Having been in that kind of situation myself, when big money comes in things change and often that's the signal that it's time to move on.

On that list, from my knowledge, the WWF was the only really famous one to switch; and even then it was only a one word change to WWE. I don't think the rest of the companies were as famous as they later became when the rebranding occurred. On the other hand Christopher Ward are already really well known in the watch world. Certainly not to the level of Rolex or Omega though so if that was their end goal a rebranding could set things on the long road for that.

Perhaps, although it's not impossible and using the SH Brand and calibre 21 movement, Calibre S1 Calibre S2 etc.. for the Sellita movements...with just 2 flags would still maintain a lot of the brand. For me the SH21 movement is the interesting thing to be honest, that's what I bought into.

It has already been mentioned that new money brings changes to a company, most investors will want a say in how their money is spent and it isn't too far of a stretch to imagine that one or more of the original founders didn't like the change in direction and so, without the position to be able to influence said changes, possibly decided to go their own way and continue alone.

All hypothetical of course, but I would imagine the new company would potentially hit the ground running with a ready made disenfranchised customer base.

Possibly!!!!!!!!!........?
