Re: Vintage watch of the day (30 years+)
Venus 188 powered Continental. It’s from the late 50s, so I like to think of it as a 1958 model - my birth year...

Hehe, there was no ulterior motive in that suggestion, was there.Soporsche wrote:Sorry, Ill stop now Reminder to self, dont post after a few Kentish beers
I saw one similar to mine for sale (a slightly different model), but seriously, it looked like it had been run over by the proverbial bus... Asking a lot for it too... I’d have let you know, but it was *seriously* rough.

Thanks! I was also watching one on a well known auction site but it lacked the quality (and colour).gaf1958 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 10:59 am Hehe, there was no ulterior motive in that suggestion, was there.

I also coincidentally came accross one of your sales from a while ago on another site whilst googling a specific model, can't for the life of me remember which one now (think it was an Omega but brain not working this morning).

I’ve also happened across some of my past sales while googling something else. Is it stupid of me to admit that there were a couple of them where I thought “ooh I wouldn’t mind that...” before realising a microsecond later that the photos looked familiar... then thinking “doh!”.Soporsche wrote:I also coincidentally came accross one of your sales from a while ago on another site whilst googling a specific model, can't for the life of me remember which one now (think it was an Omega but brain not working this morning).

Today’s early battery powered (pre-quartz) Certina. The movement is partly a normal mechanical one, with a battery and some circuitry where mainspring should be, but retaining the balance wheel mechanism. It runs at 4 ticks per second too...

Haha, no not stupid at all, just a reflection that certain visuals appeal to you.gaf1958 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 1:49 pm I’ve also happened across some of my past sales while googling something else. The amount of times Ive stopped on a pic of a Tudor Grantour whilst googling and thought oh that's interesting, then realise I have one that i don't wear as it looks much better in pics than on my wrist (just sold it).
Or I click on an image of a lovely retro chrono and discount it due to size (too small) but then still click through to read the details on every other image of the same watch: hoping i find its actually got bigger dimensions on another site! Doh!

I'm on a roll, third watch of the day is my lovely 1934 Rolex 'Tank'.
