Re: Post a picture from your latest ride
Latest addition to the 4 wheeled collection......
Seven years older than me and everything works - like me (just!)
It will be put to use rolling, harrowing and topping the fields to save my ride on mower from premature death.
I plan to gradually improve it to a level whereby I can take it to local agricultural shows in the summer months.
Best bit is that it is road registered and historic so I can also trundle around the lanes needing no tax or MOT - all at the heady top speed of around 15MPH!!
For anyone that's interested it is a Fordson Power Major born in 1960.
Cheers,
Paul

If only we had the snow here to put one of those to good use.........having said that we have had so much rain this year that a version that works on mud would be perfect!!
Cheers,

Re: Post a picture from your latest ride
The downside of riding at this time of year...
The bike looks like this after virtually every ride, and sadly, the design of the GS means the legs and boots of the rider get similarly covered. There are various after-market mudguards etc that need investigating.

Took a ride out to my local "All Year Biker" franchise today, and got the GS sorted. The process took almost 3 hours and I'm delighted with the results:

@downer - that's looking rather resplendent Richard, but what did it look like once you got it home?

Aye, it was a bit mucky again. However, I’m led to believe that the crud will almost fall off with the merest hint of a hosepipe.Bahnstormer_vRS wrote:@downer - that's looking rather resplendent Richard, but what did it look like once you got it home?

Re: Post a picture from your latest ride
^^^ Looks familiar.
I did a 191 mile stint on Thursday, visiting 11 different collection/drop off points. Eventually the FJR1300 becomes uncomfortable for my knees but overall, it's a great bike.
Meanwhile, I managed a few miles on the GS this morning. Conditions were not ideal - even if the sky showed hints of blue...

Re: Post a picture from your latest ride
How are you getting on with the GS Richard?
Must be six months or so in? I'm so tempted to swap out my '05 1200GS for a newer GS at some point but do start to get palpitations sat in front of the configurator after adding the usual farkels like luggage etc.

Re: Post a picture from your latest ride
Yes, I got it towards the end of June last year, and the odometer ticked past 9,000 miles this morning. I am completely happy with the bike - it does everything I could want, being super-comfortable, plenty lively, easy to ride and with all the bells and whistles, it's great in all weathers and and on all roads.
To make it totally "mine" I have added/swapped a few bits such as the screen, hand protectors, bar up/back risers and more recently, switched from the Michelin Anakee Adventures to Conti Trail Attack 3's. In my opinion the new tyres are a significant improvement. I've probably spent a few quid on other odds and ends that I've already forgotten about.
As for faults, well I had a warning message (no impact on performance) and the dealer swapped the fuel pump as a precaution. The first service cost about £110 and I'm on my third Nav VI GPS unit (all replaced without any fuss and under warranty).
When I get off the FJR1300 and back on to the GS, three things strike me:
1. The legroom on the GS is significantly more comfortable for my knees
2. The GS engine is far more perky and mid-range acceleration seems far more immediate (this may be because we run the FJR in "tour" mode for economy reasons).
3. I wonder what the GS would be like with a smooth 4 cylinder engine, as I must admit the Boxer feels a little lumpy after the Yamaha.
Overall though, I can't think of a bike I would swap the GS for - regardless of money or any other consideration.

Re: Post a picture from your latest ride
^^ Thanks for that! 9k in seven months is quite some going! Very impressed you're riding it through the colder months when so many (mine included) are relegated to a charger and SORN. I've not tried the 1250 yet, but all reports so far seem to indicate that the variable cam is pure witchcraft with absolutely no sign that the cam profiles have swapped over regardless of throttle or speed- very impressive. Being a six footer I too find the GS one of the more confortable bikes and it's that relaxed position that is attractive in getting another GS. If I had one complaint about the motor of my old 1200 it's that rolling the throttle on-off at low speed is a bit jerky- which I think has been thoroughly addressed as the design evolved through the twin cam, the 1200 LC and now the 1250.
Lovely bike Richard- I feel a visit to the dealership calling!

^^ Yes, I have to say the variable cam is not detectable to me, and there are no fuelling or jerky throttle issues.
As you can probably tell, I thoroughly recommend the bike.
