CWL 2019 Forum Watch of the Year

Post by Kip »

As 2019 comes to a close, it is time for the CW Forum inmates to decide what we think is the best new watch model introduction for 2019 by Christopher Ward (CW).

This year CW has released 23 models and 85 variants. This does not even include bespoke models. Our voting list has been narrowed down to 9 core models for voting.

Limited editions such as the C60 and C65 316L, C60 Trident Pro Ombre’ C8 M2.04, C9 AM GT and variants based on a core model such as the C65 Anthropocene and C65 Black/Gold have not been included. This is the same way we have determined the voting list in prior years.
If you feel I have erred by not including a model, let me know and it can be added, although it would be by a separate tally.

What is included are totally new introductions that are a result of new movements, design, case size and/or innovations.

New releases started in January with the final model based on the C60 Mk II case. This was the C60 Trident Pro 316L black. The much anticipated C65 Trident Automatic followed shortly thereafter. The C8 M2.04 LE, based on the older C8 case, was a very interesting model that started off the year.

Things were a bit quiet until May when the stunning and all new C60 Trident 600 Mk III was launched. This model now was available in 3 sizes as well as a GMT model. The 40mm GMT model came along in August. Launched around the same time was the beautiful and feature packed C60 Trident Elie 1000.

June brought us the C65 Trident Vintage Mk III and July the C9 AM GT LE.

August was a very busy launch time. CW released the C65 Trident 316L yellow, C65 Trident Diver SH21, C60 Apex, C60 Trident Ombre' and the new Military line consisting of the C65 Cranwell, Sandhurst and Dartmouth models.

New releases finished up in October with the C65 Anthropocene and C65 Black/Gold limited Editions.

As I have said several times before….another very rather prolific year from CW.

In previous Watch of the Year voting, the forum has looked beyond what may be a personal favorite and voted based on the evidence. I expect this to continue this year.

What we are looking for is the one watch that, we as forum members, feel will have the most significant impact on CWL, not only now, but in the future. Photos and specs of most models may be seen in the CWArchive. Other real world photos may be found in the Reference Gallery and Gallery.

My personal favourite is the C8 M2.04 LE for its unique design and historical connection, closely followed by the C60 Apex which is one of my most worn watches since I bought it.

However, for significance towards CW and their ongoing development, the C60 Trident Pro 600 Mk3 has to be the stand out one to vote for.

C60 MK3 for my vote. Brilliant upgrade of CW’s flagship selling dive watch
Small collection of timepieces that I enjoy

My favourite model of the year is probably the C65 black/gold, but obviously that's not included so the C60 MKIII gets my vote.

Mine arrived a few weeks ago and it's absolutely brilliant.

Just received a C65 auto which looks gorgeous but I would suggest the most significant watch from CW is the Mk3 Trident. A gorgeous watch with a huge step up in quality over the Mk2

I'd agree with Guy's comment about the C60 Mk3 and this gets my vote - although none of this year's offerings have troubled my credit card.

So do I but it’s not on the list as it’s a variant of an existing model.
