Deep sea diving for Oldies
Deep sea diving for Oldies
I have recently purchased a C11 Titanium Extreme 1000 which I see will allow me to dive to a depth of 3,280 feet.
Being 75, my personal best, some years ago, was about 30 feet.
Was my purchase a triumph of hope over expectation?

Re: Deep sea diving for Oldies
It's a great looking watch and that's a perfect reason for owning it.
Similarly I have a Breitling Superocean which is rated at 1500m and the deepest I get is a well filled bath or bobbing about in a pool.

Des, you are not alone here I feel. I'm sure I have at least 6-8 divers that could go 200-600m and they are lucky if they get to 2m in a holiday pool.
The C11 is a great watch, my first or second CW was an Extreme and like you the hands were a big part of the attraction.

Well, I have a Bremont S2000 and the only water it has seen is rain. The HRV has no chance of ever being used while it’s in my ownership.
My name is 0uatiOW, but before you ask, no I don’t.

I've got one that will go to 12,800 feet that I don't even wear in the shower!!Thegreyman wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 2:08 pm Des, you are not alone here I feel. I'm sure I have at least 6-8 divers that could go 200-600m and they are lucky if they get to 2m in a holiday pool.

I agree though, the Extreme is a lovely watch.

Re: Deep sea diving for Oldies
I think there are plenty of watch owners who think they need:
A 600m dive watch with HE valve to jump in a pool
A gigantic pilot watch to fly with Easyjet
A Motorsport chronograph to watch Lewis on the telly, or to boil an egg
A GMT/Worldtimer to go to France for a weekend
A super-subtle dress watch for those classy soirées in Playa de las Americas...
...and so on...
It is, of course, total BS, but loads of us have gone through it.
BTW, I actually DO take a 600m GMT on holiday, but my C60 600 Trident GMT does everything. I never travel with any other watch these days. No brainer.

Re: Deep sea diving for Oldies
Water resistance is about pressure, I had water ingress into a 200m rated watch in heavy surf, crown was screwed in and it had been serviced a year or so earlier. The red flag was not flying and there were many people young and old enjoying the sea so not a massive surf.
Next time your in the surf with your C11, congratulate yourself for being prepared for unexpected paddling conditions
Re: Deep sea diving for Oldies
I personally think you made a big mistake buying a watch like this at your age, you should be ashamed of yourself & know better.
I will give you my address & you can pass it on to me where it will be abused like it should be.
Seriously though, it is a fantastic watch, I used to own one myself & also Makaira Pro 500, I have been snorkelling with both, that is also about my depth limit.
Your purchase was certainly a triumph & you must enjoy it.

You're very right - I am ashamed, but I can assure you that, even at my age, I can abuse any watch known to man simply by wearing it around the house!I personally think you made a big mistake buying a watch like this at your age, you should be ashamed of yourself & know better.

I own a 4x4 car because I occasionally have to put two wheels up on the grass verge outside my Son’s house. Parking is limited there and the grass is sometimes wet!
