For sale section is really limited

Post by Ronarid »

Hi all. I rejoined this forum to sell a watch but I can't because I have to post 50x to be allowed to sell. I only found this out after 5 posts. I kind of understand the thinking behind this but it's limiting to the extreme. No point me participating at all unless I post 45 more posts of useless fluff just for access to sell.

If you moderate this not to appear then understandable but ultimately you are losing the opportunity for your members to have an active sales section. Not sure if that's the plan. Anyway oft to ebay I go

I suppose it's to prevent wide boys and scammers filling the for sale section. I'd be very nervous about buying from a member who has not "participated" a great deal on the forum. Lots of people about who know nothing about automatic movement watches or how to treat them properly.

Nothing personal...

Over the years there have been many such threads as this one.

I can't recall a single one getting any sympathy.

Ebay's your answer.

Actually, the rule was explained to you when your first post was disapproved (I know because I wrote it) so I’m afraid that to say you only found out after 5 posts is nonsense.

There are forums where you need 250 posts and six months membership to sell a watch, so you get off quite lightly here.

Anyway - the forum‘s rules, your choice.

I thought this post was going to be about the limited number of watches for sale at any given time....

Worse than EBay and other web selling sites?

Interesting use of the "I've got an X to sell" line though.....

As an aside, over at Omega Forums, it seems to be almost de rigeur that anyone signing in new with any kind of "My grandfather left me this Speedmaster/I got this in a yard sale.... and I don't know what I've got" story does seem to trigger lots of bidding by PM.

Man joins watch forum.
Man realises watch forum is not gumtree.
Man goes away.
Man goes to Tenerife to sell watch outside nightclub instead.

When did you originally join the forum as I can only see posts during Nov 2019 under your forum member name so is re-join the correct wording?

We didn't always have a rule about selling for newcomers although I'm glad that we have.

Ronarid might have joined years ago perhaps to sell a watch.

Having done that he may have forgotten about the Forum until now when he wants to sell another.

Maybe he also forgot his Forum name and password.

Just my take.

I wouldn't buy a watch from someone who hadn't been around the forum for some time. People buy the seller as much as the item. Good luck on ebay.

You join a forum because you have an interest in the brand and want to find out more, ask questions and perhaps contribute
...not just to sell a watch!
