A request to TapaTalk users re Photos
As a TapaTalk user myself, I’ve found that the add photo functionality is both simple and, well simple...
But is it? I discovered that it’s not quite as straightforward as I had thought when I quoted one of my own posts (as you do ). When I did so, instead of the photo that I’d been wanting to see in the resultant post, was a filename, but no photo. I’d quoted other people’s posts with TapaTalk hosted photos - and they’d either worked just fine or had given me a result like the one I’d just seen.
So what was the defining factor I wondered. Looking at the line of gibberish (an attachment string) it seemed that all of the unsatisfactory quotation results were from attached files (the paper clip icon seen in the image below). They work just fine - the first time. Quote that post though and the result is a useless filename.
If you use the little “mountain” icon , you are inserting a photo using the same formatting as if you used the forum’s own imaging tools from a web browser or using the standard IMG tags from Imgur or any other web hosting device. Quoting a post created using the little mountain icon gives the results you would expect - to see the original image included in the quoted post.
So please, TapaTalk users - images only using the icon, not the icon...
BTW, I have on occasion used a workaround when quoting posts with attached images - I screen capture the image (full page), save it to my camera roll, then insert it into the quoted portion of the post in place of the “attachment string” using (of course) the icon...

Re: A request to TapaTalk users re Photos
A very similar issue to the one I raised in this thread, Gary.
I hardly use TapaTalk at all, so that would not have occurred to me. Thank you.

Re: A request to TapaTalk users re Photos
Good advice there Gary.
I noticed recently that Tapatalk had been a bit sneaky and started only permitting a very poor resolution photo to be uploaded unless you upgraded to Tapatalk VIP. For thge £4.99 per annum I did it and also you don't get ads. Previously though you could upload better quality photos even with their free app.
The other benefit of Tapatalk photo uploads to the forum is that they don't flip between portrait and landscape as they seem to do if I take a photo on my iphone then put on the forum via the forum hosting (attach files, place inline) facility.

Re: A request to TapaTalk users re Photos
But do we want or need photos repeating when we do quotes and that quote is then quoted?
Wasn't there a thread fairly recently that criticised the continual repetition of photos when making a comment like "that's nice" or similar?
How many times do we need to see a watch photo if it's just being quoted from the post before?
Just refer to the watch by name when congratulating somebody re. their new purchase or watch of the day ?
Just a thought.

Re: A request to TapaTalk users re Photos
Probably me as well! Indiscriminate and unnecessary quoting is a bit of a bugbear of mine. By the way, I quoted your post to show which sentence I was referring to but trimmed the rest.

Re: A request to TapaTalk users re Photos
I use TapaTalk VIP (cost of £0.77 per month with no adverts) most of the time to upload photos and have worked out they need to be <3MB in file size.
Always use the 'Mountain' icon and then 'insert inline', to get them spaced out or placed where I want them within the text, otherwise they just appear at the bottom of the post (below my signature).
On the rare occasion that I upload a picture using the forum, I will usually then save the photo to my phone and reload it via TapaTalk.

Re: A request to TapaTalk users re Photos
That is all too frequently true Mick and I am in complete support of trimming unnecessary text (and photos) when quoting, but in a long thread, such as our watch of the day threads or the FLE discussions, it is often necessary for a quote to include an image to provide context for a comment. Otherwise you need to scroll back and forth to make sense of a comment; I frequently can’t be bothered once I scroll back far enough for TapaTalk to have to load the next thread segment...Mikkei4 wrote:But do we want or need photos repeating when we do quotes and that quote is then quoted?

Re: A request to TapaTalk users re Photos
I have also noticed that Tapatalk has reduced the resolution of pics. I think that is ok, as I know what any watch I like looks like. I am more interested in the setting of the pic, rather than a boring at a desk, at a keyboard boring “wrist shot”.
Hence I like Gary’s beach shots more than a high resolution close up wrist shot with zero context.
I think it’s good that the image disappears when re quoted.
Far too many don’t trim their quotes and there are a few serial offenders on Tapatalk who always requote, which ends up being rather tiresome.
Neil

Neil, one day I hope to have more time to post scenic shots but for now I’m afraid it’s the car or office most days as a scenic background
