Missed that. Don't have Amazon Prime!

Might try and look it up.

It was one of those rare times when all three of the boys agreed that it was a fantastic trip. If they can all agree that it's a world class drive, then it's probably more than worth the trip!

Photos from this afternoon.

My late lunchtime stop, after which I can fully understand why the road is the first to get closed with snow Neil.

Image

Skies cleared north of Grantown on Spey.

Image

Just about the last thing I expected to see. An AA box*, not seen one for eons.

Image

Image

*For the uninitiated. AA is the Automobile Association, who run a breakdown / recovery service for their member. In the days before mobile phones, these boxes were dotted around the country and members has a key to access the hot-line phone inside.

Cromarty Firth, north of Inverness.

A bridge over the Firth can be seen on the right, which I drove over to continue up the NE Coast.

After two days solid driving, I'm planning a quieter day tomorrow.

My only thought on that is the roads are more suited to a Rally car than a Supercar.

Subaru WRX STi, not too stiff, rather than Porsche 911.

My Yeti is great, except I have the springs/shocks a bit too stiff.

Big open skies, I absolutely love the Highlands. Enjoy your roadtrip Guy. Any plans to drive around the Applecross/Shieldaig peninsula? One of my favourite sections of tarmac. Nothing but vistas, hair-raising curves and confused sheep.

Thanks for the suggestion Rich.

That is one of the possibilities for Tuesday next week, when staying two nights (Monday & Tuesday) in Muir of Ord.

The path is clear
Though no eyes can see
The course laid down long before
And so with gods and men
The sheep remain inside their pen
Though many times they've seen the way to leave
He rides majestic
Past homes of men
Who care not or gaze with joy
To see reflected there
The trees, the sky, the lily fair...

Letting the Train take the Strain today, so I can see some countryside, without worrying about keeping the car on the road.

Going Wick - Thurso - Helmsdale and return, with part of the route going up and over some moorlands, miles from the nearest roads.

Image

Lowlands a few miles south of Thurso.

Image

Not quite Pullman class, but there are power sockets for laptops and mobiles, plus WiFi. There is even a buffet trolley.

Image

An obligatory watch pic.

^^ Guy, there's some noteworthy road closure info in Tim's link above you might need to heed if you head to Applecross.

Cheers Rich.

I read that, but think it applies coming from the South West. I'll be coming from the North.

Will double check though.

Guy,

I am vicariously enjoying your vacation via your photos (similar to how I vicariously enjoy your splendid watch collection). Thanks for posting and have a great trip!
Best regards,
John
