Holiday Road Trip - NC500

Post by Bahnstormer_vRS »

This time last year I took a ten day holiday visiting a few friends / relatives and some old haunts in and around Exmoor, Snowdonia and in between.

This year I'm off on a eleven day Road Trip around the North Coast 500 a trip around the coastal roads of Northern Scotland, actually 516 miles, with a start / finish in Inverness.

Well, I say eleven days. Its really seven days with two days either side to get to / from Scotland.

Yesterday I made it from home as far north as Musselburgh, Nr. Edinburgh taking in a scenic route via Barnard Castle up and over Weardale and Teesdale. Not an ideal diversion considering the wet, wet weather with huge puddles and streams of water across the road.

Image

More moorland scenery followed as I took the A68 towards Edinburgh passing into Scotland at Carter Bar.

Today I'm heading for Inverness via the Old Military Road around the East of the Cairngorms, and onwards up the North East coast.

Better get moving.....

Have a great trip Guy!

Have you taken a selection of watches for some scenic CWOTD/NCWOTD photos over the next week?

Yes, Chris. Image

Woman arrived and parked near me, took two fox terriers out of her car, and set off into the woods.

Quite bleak up high with snow poles lining the roads.

Looking down towards Braemar.

Turned left at Balmoral taking a single track road up and over a Moor.

Now stopped for a bacon and egg roll, plus pot of tea at Corgaff.

The Cock Bridge to Tomintoul section is generally the first road to get closed for snow (mainly during the winter) and this reoccurs frequently through the winter.

The weather isn’t much better in this neck of the woods, Guy. Some of those pictures are taking me back to places I know – I lived in the Highlands for eight years. I hope you get some good views, mate – especially going around the north-west.

It's been a bit wet last day or so in Lancashire also, safe travels and hope the weather picks up. You did well just to take a couple of watches I always take far too many!

Cheers Johnny. Weather has been mixed today. No serious rain, unlike yesterday, but high up in the Cairngorms was shrouded with clouds. Inverness area was clear, but the NE coast is again shrouded in mist and fog from low clouds, but skies are clear out to sea.
