Re: Non CW of the Day
StrappedUp, I’ve had it for about 5 years - this was my first vintage purchase. Usually, my wife wears it though.

That's a beaut. Out of curiosity, what is the white hand for?rarebritishartglass wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 5:01 pm 5503588A-DBB5-4749-B83E-AE39806AAAED.jpeg
A very rare outing for my Jaeger le Coultre chronograph.... 36mm is just too small for my wrist

Hi Ryan, the white hand is to set the alarm function, and it is a quality sounding fast beeper. I just wish it was 40mm because I’ve got quite thick wrists for a thin guyStrappedUp wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 6:36 pmThat's a beaut. Re: Non CW of the Day
Please excuse my ignorance, but is it a mechanical alarm?rarebritishartglass wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 7:41 pm Hi Ryan, the white hand is to set the alarm function, and it is a quality sounding fast beeper. I just wish it was 40mm because I’ve got quite thick wrists for a thin guy
The "beeper" part of your comment has thrown me.

Re: Non CW of the Day
It’s a mecha-quartz JLC calibre 633 where the battery element runs the alarm. I am not a fan of quartz personally but this movement is a different and intricate beast in the form of a combination of the two which holds an interesting place in the history of Swiss chronology.StrappedUp wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 8:57 pmPlease excuse my ignorance, but is it a mechanical alarm?rarebritishartglass wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 7:41 pm Hi Ryan, the white hand is to set the alarm function, and it is a quality sounding fast beeper. Re: Non CW of the Day
For Ryan
Calibre 633 was a quartz watch movement with a mechanical chronograph developed by Jaeger-LeCoultre and also used by IWC.
Calibre 633 was a member of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Mechaquartz family. It was the most complicated movement in the family, with 27 jewels and an alarm function.
There are two motors in the calibre:
One powers the main timekeeping hands at a frequency of 1 Hz
A second powers the mechanical chronograph at 4 Hz
Since the chronograph is mechanical, it has the same feel as a conventional chronograph movement, including mechanical zero reset. Yet the Mechaquartz was much more compact than a conventional automatic chronograph movement.
