And yet again Omega let the general buying public down on such a worldwide event by offering 6969 of the Moon Landing watch at close to £8k.

Disappointing and disappointed.
Still there are plenty of other decent Omega models available at a decent price. The other day I saw someone selling a month old current model 39.5mm Planet Ocean that has an RRP of £5k for £3k.

Mind you those of us on watch forums live in a bubble. I would suggest that the general buying public would typically spend less than £500 on a watch and if you stuck a Speedmaster In front of them would have no clue that it’s generally considered a must try watch by WIS.

I understand what you're saying about other nice and tasteful Omega models being available and I agree but for better or worse Omega are the "owners" of a bit of history for which there is global interest, i.e the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing with it's associated watch. It would have been so easy for them to make subtle changes to the standard Moonwatch, maybe an enamelled mid plate on the back and different packaging, and have it on release for 6 months or a year or so at a small premium rather than 6969 pieces at double the cost of the standard Moonwatch.

I have a standard Hesalite version that I love but I would have bought another if it was as I suggest but I won't go anywhere near 1 of the 6969 LEs.

I quite like this 50th anniversary model. I've been thinking about getting a two tone gold/steel watch such as the BB S & G, I think this one could have filled that desire. I do agree that the 9 o'clock subdial does rankle a bit and spoil the aesthetic. It's only really in close up you can see what it is depicting and may have been better relegated to the case back although I do love the footprint and quote on the back so they could have completely done away with that and the watch would have been far better. The "11" could have sufficed as a nod to the moon landing on the dial.

The price at £7,370 RRP in the UK is offputting (surely should have been £6,969 at most!). It will probably sell out and be a good investment piece but that is not the right reason to buy for me.

So I don't think I would buy this but I certainly don't put it in the same bracket as the masters of gaudiness, Hublot.

Apparently virtually every AD has already got more names on their list, than the number of watches they are getting in their allocation.

Sounds like “if you want one, good luck trying to get one”.

Now, about that new CW Moon Phase...

Some are surely to show up within a week on ebay. Any speculation as to the opening bid? I'll start at $12,500. :D

It comes in a different version of the usual pointlessly large box. With the watch sitting in some wire contraption with legs.

You mean you actually believe they landed on the moon?

It was obviously a marketing campaign dreamt up by Omega, admittedly probably the most successful of all time :respect:

I was in a big city Omega AD this week. Apparently they are only getting one gold and 2 SS 50th anniversary Speedys and all could have been sold a few times over. No surprise really, bound to be some speculators amongst the buyers. Coming to a watch reseller near you soon, at an inflated price.

I don't think you will see any in AD windows, they are all pre-sold (out).
