Audi ruins C65 Trident Auto plan

Post by RichM »

So, I'm saving for the amazing C65 Auto aiming to buy in November as a treat to myself for my birthday. I love that (blue dial) watch costing £695.

My 9 year old Audi was serviced and mot'd (by Audi) last month costing only £50 as I had a service-pack-deal-thing with them. This week smoke was coming off the offside rear brake and it was glowing red (not great with the children in the car). Audi have said a failed brake caliper and handbrake cable is the fault. New brake disc and pad required, which were only a year old, as they are ruined from the heat build-up. All this after the clean service and mot.

The cost of repairs? £690.

I'd better get saving harder!

That's tough. I guess the consolation with having an older car is that the depreciation becomes so low that it covers the cost of a few repairs e.g. my (not that fancy or expensive) car probably depreciates £2.5k - £3k per annum before I even drive a mile or pay for any service repairs :problem:

Hopefully the Audi behaves itself from here on in till you get the C65 [-o<

Reminds me of a conversation I once had with my dad.

Dad: my 8 yr old car has just cost me £250 to get it through it’s MOT! It’s alright for you son, with your fancy new car!

Me: Yeah? My last service cost £250 and there was nowt wrong it!

Dad: Well, that’ll teach ya to drive a new car!

Me: :silent: :silent: :silent:

Thank you for the replies. I feel a bit less gloomy about it now.

I'll aim still for November for the C65.

Rich, I know your pain. Last December the soft-top of my 2006 Audi A4 Cabriolet broke, and I only got it fixed last month (and also had to get new brakes as well).

On a plus side, I did manage to get myself a C65 Trident Diver (in black). And Spring is here.

Good luck for November!

Sorry to here this Rich ;(
You'll love the C65 even more now that you have to wait a bit longer for it.

On the Audi brake issue, if you are fussy about the paintwork then I would recommend a good detail of it to be done.
It will be covered in iron fall out deposits from the stuck on brakes and will harm the paintwork.

Thanks for the heads up on that, MiniMpi. I gave the car a good clean yesterday (and even gave the soft-top some tlc) so hopefully that should keep it looking (pretty) reasonable.

Very true Patrick.

Often though it all boils down to financial ability and personal priorities.

@RichM - Fingers crossed for you Rich that you don't get any further unexpected bills. Did your dealer just replace the brake disc/pads on the one wheel? I ask, because usually brake discs/pads are supplied and replaced in pairs. Best to keep the wear even on a axle.

I think we all know how frustrating it can be when things like this seem to conspire against your best laid plans!

Tis true though that owning / running a previously loved car is far more cost effective than new overall, but only if you stay as far away from Main Stealers as is humanly possible!

You're mad if you are taking your 9 year old Audi to a dealer for work like that. Go to a specialist for half the cost and far better standard of work.

You're dead right! It's the only car I've had serviced through a main dealership. Never again!

Thanks for the support everyone. The watch will be well worth the wait when I eventually get my hands on it. (A bit like, I hope, when you eventually get a pint after a long wait at the bar in a busy pub. That particular pint always tastes the best!).

Happy Easter y'all.

Hopefully you will drop lucky and manage to pick one up in a sale to balance out the wait, enjoy when you end up getting it
