Ideas for a watch for my 5 year old Grandson

Post by treyford »

My Grandson is five years old and has quite recently shown a lot of interest in knowing the time and so I am looking for advice from other forum'ites who have young children what was the first watch they got their children.

I have looked at https://www.timex.co.uk/kids-analog-32m ... es#start=1

Image

I thought this might fit the bill because the hands have been labeled 'Hours and Minutes' which should help with understanding the position on the dial and it's quite a child friendly design and colour.

Can anyone make any other suggestions?

If hes in to spiderman, batman, cars, thomas or lego then look down those roads via flick flack or lego watches

Also they do a cool military version of the one above with a Tudor ranger esc camo strap and moving helicopter

I bought this Tikkers (ref: TK0140) watch for my son ...

Thought the markings would make for easier reading/learning compared to some of the others. Available at Amazon or other jewellers.

I love that Timex watch!!! My first watch probably came around that age - a women's mechanical Timex with the strap shortened for my little wrist. I still have it 40 something years later and it still runs. I recently put a new strap on it so that it doesn't look out of place with my other more "adult" watches, but it brings me joy to have that one.

I'm really tempted by that shark Timex for my nephew! He's about the right age now. I think that has the right amount of "boy" in it yet is still an easy to read watch.

I like the idea of something with a link to something he's interested in, whether Lego or Batman or whatever the "thing" is. I know my nephews love both their super hero band-aids/plasters and temporary tattoos so a watch that is something tied to their passion will hopefully make learning to tell time more exciting.

A Timex "Charlie Brown/Snoopy" watch then you could borrow it for a casual day wear?

My 3 year old has one of thdse, they are suprisingly hardy:

All the links come off and on by hand and can be mixed up for different looks

Eldest (10) has a Star Wars lego watch, similar to that posted by Dancematt.

For Christmas we bought Youngest (6) the same Tikkers as posted by Ryan. The only downside is that there’re not enough holes in the strap to get it tight enough on his wrist.

Both boys are happy with what they’ve got.
Rich.

It’s good to get them interested in watches whilst they are young.

His younger sister also seems keen.

It's all fun and games now, but as you say, it could prove costly as time progresses :D

Still, I have no problems going shopping for a watch, even if it isn't for myself

Thanks all for the suggestions, I am still undecided which watch to go for, my initial leanings are for the `Timex' that I showed in my original post. A point I noticed was that Timex UK are selling it for £26.99 and the same watch is for sale on amazon.com in the good old USA for US$16.31 and they are prepared to ship to the UK. The value is low enough not to attract any import duty I am assuming

The idea for a 'Speedy Snoopy' is a great call but it is a bit too rich for my budget :)

Thanks again every one.
