Mariner Watches.
Re: Mariner Watches.
Going off on a tangent now but I’ve recently got a new assistant manager...he’s been with us about 5 weeks....all I get from him is ‘you can’t say that’...’don’t say that’..etc etc etc...now I know you have to be careful what you say these days but I have been a duty manager and worked with my girls for about 7 years we know each other and to be honest they are more risky than me ....so F$€k off and let us work and have a laugh at the same time

Re: Mariner Watches.
I was born in 1957, so I guess my prime time for lowbrow culture was the late 60s and early 70s.
I must admit to finding myself a little confused sometimes by the jump-shifts my generation has made in terms of moral perception.
Things (media) which were criticised, denounced and even banned in those days (disgusting, filthy, blasphemous) are now routinely seen as rather bland.
On the other hand, things that we rolled around laughing at 50 years ago could not possibly be aired now. You would even be brave to admit ever having enjoyed them.
On the whole I find it better not to make moral judgments on these things any more.

Re: Mariner Watches.
I have never watched it but understand that this is the sort of show that today's generation are held spellbound by on mainstream TV.
Naked Attraction is a British dating game show in which a clothed person selects one contestant to reject out of six naked people, whose bodies and then faces are revealed through successive rounds, from the feet up. Once those six have been whittled down to two, the person deciding then appears nude to select one of them for a fully clothed date. The programme then presents their feedback after the date. It premiered on Channel 4 on 25 July 2016 and is presented by Anna Richardson.
Classy.

Re: Mariner Watches.
I’m in agreement with anyone that feels the advertising approach is inappropriate, in the same way that I felt an advert by Dolce and Gabana, some years ago and showing a man holding down a woman whilst three or four other men stood around, was inappropriate. The people creating the ads will argue that there is nothing non-consensual and that negative reactions are prudish but I would argue that many of these ads run the risk of being a sine qua non influence, providing a subliminal message beyond the attempt to sell a trashy timepiece. Some may well be happy with that style of advertising. I prefer subtlety and look upon ad campaigns such as the Mariner ones with more than a little disdain.

What, EfDollarEuroKay? I’ll admit it’s a mouthful, but I just tried it and made a fairly decent meal of it...
Did you see what I did there?

Old bloke ramblings or rumblings aside, I tend to agree - oh my how some things have remained largely unchanged, yet are perceived so differently these days.

Guess I'm another snowflake as well. Useless misogynistic advertising, should have been relegated to the Mad Men Era - if at all. Both disgusting ads, not making me want to buy one of their watches. Ever.

I haven't got Netflix, but seen the trailer on you tube (as recommended by Scooter earlier in the thread) - looks like it could be goodBahnstormer_vRS wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 12:00 pm @gaf1958 - talking of being an old so and so.

I'm not really big on Ricky Gervais. I never really understood him in the same way I've never been a fan of Billy Connolly.
