Sony Wena smart strap

Post by hughesyn »

Sony Wena smart bracelet.
A smart strap that wears like a normal bracelet.
Anyone up for one?

I thought this was an early April Fool's joke... but it wasn't. So good luck to Sony. You have to admire their willingness to experiment but this may be going too far. I wonder how well they sell in Japan because I doubt they'll be a big hit anywhere else.

I think it's a great idea. Hopefully some other company will be along before too long doing the same thing cheaper.

I just don't get why you would want something buzzing and beeping on your wrist anyway, so not for me this type of thing

Oh, wow. A watch strap that tells me I have a phone call.

My phone does that.

If I switch it on.

Haha, yes possibly something I would do :problem:

Thinking about this gadget a bit more. You clearly wouldn't wear this on a smart watch so it must be aimed at guys such as the us on the forum who are more traditional analogue watch fans but who might want some of the smartwatch functionality. So we could have one of these attached to a Trident.

I think I'll just stick to my iphone for the "smart" functions though. :)

I knew we had more in common than just a love of the yellow mako, Steve! Exactly my thoughts, absolutely pointless. We seem to be a dying breed though, a phone for phone calls and a watch to tell the time?! That’s just not right in the modern world apparently

Well the thing is, Chris, I am not allowed to have my phone on ringtone when I’m teaching anyway. So it usually sits on silent in my bag and most days I forget to switch the ringer back on. The only exception was during my mother’s final illness, when I told them that I was bloody well leaving the ringtone on and I would bloody well answer it if the care home rang.

Sometimes I think we are just too available and contactable. If I check my work email in the evening I sometimes get messages from pupils or even the parents asking about homework. Guess what – I ignore them. I reply the following morning, explaining that I don’t check work email in the evening.

Sometimes I wonder why I have a mobile phone at all. Although that is less frequent these days because I can get email, messaging and so forth on it. But when it was just a phone I did sometimes wonder. Then about twice a year it would occur to me what a godsend it was.
