Re: C8 Concorde - Born from dreams
Well I think this looks amazing, I love the colourful details of the hour hand, subdials and especially the red date window. The display case back with the aluminium ring of the Concorde rudder gorgeous too.
Ok there is a premium being a TMB but I actually think for the uniqueness of the watch, the very high spec (in house movement, COSC spec etc), LE of 50 then it's a bit of a bargain. Concorde is such a British icon so I think it's worth having the TMB element added in this case vs some of the other TMB editions. The (imo) less attractive and more mundane Bremont is almost 4 times the price, just makes the CW seem even more of a bargain.

Pretty much sums it up for me, Paul.Essex Paul wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 11:11 pm Not my cup of tea either but I can imagine they’ll be more than popular enough to sell the 50.
As with all the Art Metal creations you have to be pretty passionate about what the metal actually is, or rather about the machine it comes from. I remember a colleague of mine (history teacher, WW2 specialist) on a day trip to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. We were standing watching a pilot flying figures of 8 in a Spitfire and the tears were streaming down his cheeks. I guess I kind of envy him for that.
I can't get too emotional about those things...thing that have brought a lump to my throat are a bit more difficult to put into watches...the grave of El Cid in Burgos Cathedral, the Thiepval Memorial at the Somme, the Sistine Chapel, the astonishing stained glass of the Sainte Chapelle and León Cathedral, certain pieces of music...and horologically speaking, the Harrison Sea Clocks and Edmund Hillary's Smiths DeLuxe.
Diff'rent strokes. I hope they all go to people of passion who will treasure and WEAR them!

..... but isn't the Bremont Supersonic very similar in looks and design to several other Bremonts?Caller wrote:One of Bremonts Supersonic models. There's Rose gold, white gold as linked, and stainless steel.RichM wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 7:25 pm This is the Bremont version...

I'm not a fan but at least it's a good looking watch.
Whereas the C8 M2.04 looks pretty unique (I've avoided saying totally unique as I've not researched the validity of that).

Re: C8 Concorde - Born from dreams
^^^^ Well the Bremont uses the usual Bremont case. However I doubt if you will be able to put up many images of other Bremont watches with a similar dial or movement to the Supersonic?
Yep that CW is certainly unique....

I had a high school English teacher who scolded me for using any adverb with "unique." She insisted "unique" cannot be modified as the word itself confers totality. I've spent a lifetime editing my adverbs preceding the word "unique," but I still fail on occasion which I'm sure makes her roll over in her grave.

Re: C8 Concorde - Born from dreams
In another life and as part of my engineering degree I worked for Rolls Royce at Filton, Bristol in the mid 70s - working on the RB593 engne, the Olympus, the engine that powered the magnificent Concorde - the most iconic civilian aircraft ever made.
Whilst I was there they were stripping out one of the early Concordes in readiness for its final flight to Duxford, and that is where it still is to this day. As a treat (what a treat) a few of the students were taken on a short trip out across the Bristol Channel to south Wales and back - seemed like a few minutes in the air really but a memory that has lasted a lifetime.

Off topic I know, but there is likely to be what looks like a pretty faithful homage to a Smiths DeLuxe Everest later in the year from Timefactors...Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 7:38 pm

Re: C8 Concorde - Born from dreams
Good idea, Concorde was (and rest) a really mythic plane.
The watch is nice but not enough similarity with this plane for me.
When I think about Concorde, I think about beautiful silouette, the delta wing, the high performance/technology but also the very expensive costs. (The same way than a Bugatti Veyron.)
Nothing like this on the dial.
In my opinion, only a former's Concorde pilot can see the link between the plane and this watch immediately.

I prefer to CW to the Bremont. It is a fairly standard-looking Bremont for an LE.Caller wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 3:33 pmOne of Bremonts Supersonic models. There's Rose gold, white gold as linked, and stainless steel.RichM wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 7:25 pm This is the Bremont version...

I'm not in a position to buy though so will have to enjoy from afar!

Re: C8 Concorde - Born from dreams
I'm not really a huge fan of the Bremont Supersonic, although a fan of the brand. But I think you sum up the differences in approach to this watch very well. Bremont have made a watch that is designed to fit in with the ethos and style of Concorde and living where I did, I saw it fly over daily. It's also an official tie in with British Airways and as such, has integrity. As with most of Bremont's LE's, part of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to BA charities.

Re: C8 Concorde - Born from dreams
@caller - I suppose what you might say is that the Bremont Supersonic is made for Concorde passengers, whereas the CW C8 M2.04 is made for the Captain, Co-pilot, Flight Engineer and ground crew.

Re: C8 Concorde - Born from dreams
^^^ Haha, love that.
I think the Bremont Supersonic is their first handwound movement too (but not in-house movement). I love Bremont but just not this LE so much.
And over on the other thread I only have eyes for the new C65 Divers auto that's due for release some time soon. That's where my money's going!
