A bit of a surprise . . . .

Post by Bahnstormer_vRS »

New arrival for #FliegerFriday - W7 Battle of Britain Memorial Flight RAF Conningsby LE; made for BBMF staff only in 2011.

One small (pardon the pun) surprise though; I'd not fully taken on board the W7 description in the CWE Sales Corner listing i.e. its from the CW ladies range so only 36mm case.

Really quite a bit smaller than my usual preference of 41mm - 45mm. Oops!

No matter; it actually looks pretty good on my wrist, in a 'vintage' kind of way and I prefer the style of the MkI '7' case/dial/hands, as opposed to the '4' case which is the other BBMF piece.

Just need to pop it off to CW for a new battery and check over, plus sort out a longer 19mm strap.

That looks like a very nice edition to your #FliegerFamily
It actually looks, due the black case, bezel and dial, as if it wears bigger than its 36mm size suggests.

Definitely smaller. My smallest watch otherwise is a 38mm C5A.

Neither did I.

Mind you, you've not seen a full wrist shot yet. It is honestly small (for me).

The size wasn't specified on the listing and I assumed it was a regular 42mm C7 MkI case but just 'W' due to being the BBMF LE (for some obscure reason). Live and learn.

You may be right, although I always reckon that a black case 'wears' smaller than actual. Maybe its all size related. :?

Looks like it wears well Guy for the quoted size, the bezel is quite slim so that may help.

Lots of nice detail on the dial, a good pick up as long as you can get along with the smaller-than-usual (for you) size.

It's a really nice piece Guy, delighted it's gone to someone that appreciates it.
I remembered back in 2011 or that Kip was talking to me about the W8 Matisse IPK LE that I had picked up for Louise and he mentioned that the W8 LE was made up from left over cases from the W7 BBMF.
So I'd say a very small run indeed like the W8 IPK LE.
