I posted this in nbg’s “NHS heart health calculator thread first but though i would share it here too.

I am currently reading a book called “Why we Sleep” the new science of sleep and dreams by Matthew Walker... as someone who has lived on 5-6 hours sleep a night since around the age of 15, to say that the book it is an eye opener would be an understatement. So many health issues are caused by a lack of, or a poor nights sleep and reguarly getting less than 8 hours of sleep a night has serious, unreversable consequences such as ; Weight gain and the problem of not being able to shead those extra pounds, as well as many many other issues such as diabetes, dementia, coronary disease, the list goes on and on...

If you don’t read anything else this year, read this book! I am sure most of you will be as alarmed by some, if not most of its contence.
(Just to point out I have no connection with the auther or publishers but i can highly recomend reading this book)

I’m currently reading The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck, per the recommendation of a student. As a history teacher, I’m finding the image it paints of China in the early 20th century fascinating. I wish I had the time and my students the wherewithal to use excerpts in class.

I once recommended a book to this student. She read it within 3 days and came back to class guns a blazing wanting to discuss it. I felt it was only right that I read her recommendation to me.

His tantrums, bullying and all round general behaviour as a first class a*@#hole make some of the recent forum comments seems angelic.

Is that the guy who played the part of Robin Williams until a few years ago? He looked funnier dressed as Mork ;-)

Currently finishing off or 1 of Miles Hunts Wonder Stuff diaries (currently taken 2 years as I only look at it on holiday between drinking, sight seeing and being a lazy sod on the sun lounger).
‘‘Tis a tad weird seeing glimpses of my younger life explained from the other side- been listening to and watching them live for 30 years...just seen an old friend mentioned in there- most odd!
