Where's the wheel on the bonnet?
You wouldn't get away with it now, but I have fond memories of sitting in the spare wheel on the bonnet and being driven across moorland as a small child.

^^^hilarious run down of your Landy's spec Ian. After building your own watch, I'm sure you can tackle keeping this old girl on the road

Agreed, wonderful run down.

I have many fond memories of driving LRs of that vintage when in the Army.

Amazing that you sit on the fuel tanks and there's a small toggle lever to switch the supply between the two.

Puzzled by one comment though; four gear levers. I remember three; main, transfer and fwd but the 4th?

Pope Francis accepts a new 602 BHP Lamborghini Huracan. For a laugh he should use it before it's auctioned off, just for the headlines.
Keys handed over by Stefano Domenicali ex boss of Ferrari F1 and now CEO of Lamborghini with good connections it seems.

I bought this old, ex military, series 3 land rover a few months ago, just cos it was offered at a good price and I always fancied one.
So, I set about getting it through an MOT, which it did last week. To get there I fitted ‘new’ less rusty drivers door, new shock absorber bushes, rear brakes, front brake pipes, radiator, water pump cooling fan and hoses, wipers, washer pump, various bulbs and away she went.
As I drive this old girl I am getting more and more impressed by the engineering and safety features built in way back in 1972 when she was registered.
Here is a list:
ABS: The brakes aren’t good enough to lock the wheels, so no risk of a lock up there.
Power assisted brakes: They are servo assisted, but most of the power comes from my leg muscle!
Braking distance :You better keep well back – you REALLY need the stopping distance!
Power assisted steering: The faster you go, the easier it is to steer, I don’t have enough power in my arms to turn the steering wheel when stationary!
Awesome turning circle: This is really impressive, but only when compared to the turning circle of a supertanker!
Crumple zone: Every other vehicle on the road bar tanks and hgv’s will crumple before this thing does, the chassis reminds me of Victorian over engineering
Air con: Every possible gap in the bodywork lets air in, plus two manually opening vents below the windscreen, just in case you aren’t cold enough
Seat belts: Yes it has them, the old non inertia reel type, so, once strapped in you aint going anywhere!
Windscreen wipers: Again, yes it has them, but you could fall asleep watching them wander across the screen from one side to the next
Speed limiter: She has a built in speed limiter to protect my licence, anything above 50mph and its so noisy my ears bleed.
Gear sticks: How many cars can you honestly say gives you a choice of 4 gearsticks to play with?
Self opening windows: As I drive, the drivers door sliding window opens itself to make sure I get plenty of air (and rain at times, which is frequently up here in the Lake District). There must be some sort of ventilation sensor attached to this feature, as, occasionally, the window just falls out completely and has been known to hit me on the head!
Super secure fuel tank filler: I couldn’t find it! I had to research to locate it, it’s under the drivers seat! I have to take the seat out to refuel – awesome!
In car entertainment?: All of the above!

No car tax, cheap insurance!

I love it, it just makes me smile![/quote]

a wonderful car! :D

I'm waiting for delivery of a 6 seater Transit, so I can get in all the kids and also transport motorbikes / mountain bikes.

Flicking through the online manual, I came across this bit about the tyre inflate (doesn't come with a spare):

"Only use the temporary mobility kit when the ambient temperature is between -30° and 70° C (-22° and 158° F)."

What a stupid thing to put in the manual. Where, on planet earth, would you be outside that temperature range?
And in a van?

I've been to Norway once when it was -25°, but -30° is ridiculous.
Even if you found yourself in a -35° flat tyre situation, would you think 'I'd better wait til it warms up to -30 before giving this stuff a go?
At the other end of the scale, at 70° wouldn't you be more worried about being dead than the flat tyre?

I think they must all be ex-BMW drivers that still haven't got used to how 8) Audi indicators are. If my car had them I'd be indicating constantly! :D
