C60 misaligned indices

Post by StrappedUp »

Hey all,

I was photographing my C60 for the forum a couple of weeks ago and happened to notice that some of the hour markers where slightly misaligned.
In particular, the 12 hour markers weren't aligned side-by-side correctly and the 9 marker was skewed out of line with the logo text.
I didn't notice it for the first couple of days amidst all the initial excitement, but as soon as I did, it was all that I could see.

Mainly out of curiousity (but frankly my only option as I didn't buy it new), I emailed CW customer services to ask them if they deemed it was within their production tolerances.

Scott came back to me and told me that it wasn't and that it would be repaired FOC under the movement warranty.

It's back with them now and in the queue to be sorted, but I thought this was an excellent response and one I was very happy to hear.

I'll provide another update when the watch gets back, but at present CS gets the nod from me and a big  .

In the meantime, here's a couple of photos (more obvious in the flesh, honest) ...

Ah! This Old chestnut.

There was a jolly old Forum spat over this a year or so ago.

Many of these seem to have the wonky twelves, yet there are some who just cannot seem to see it.

I can, and it is the reason I have not got a 600 Trident!

They will get it sorted though.

Hard to tell with the 9:00 but that 12:00 needs braces.

I did try and find out if it was a common issue, but couldn't find anything. My forum search skills are probably not upto scratch.

I didn't know whether other members may feel I am being a little anal about it, but it's obviously deemed an issue by CW, otherwise they wouldn't be asking to send it back based on my photos.

If this isn't the only one that has slipped through the net, it's a bit of a QC worry. I mean it's a visual anomalie on something that you basically look at all the time.

Anyhow, if it's been touched on before, I'll say no more and post some pics when it's back.

I think anyone on here would send it back in two seconds under warranty. At a minimum they wouldn't fault you for it by any stretch of the imagination.

Could someone be more explicit about the particular problem with this watch? At first glance it looks like the 120-click rotating bezel is off by one click. The dial looks like it might be a tad bit off, but I might consider that due to the camera angle. Since the day window and 9 o'clock logo looked aligned is it a situation where the whole dial is slightly rotated counter-clockwise? Or is it only the 12 o'clock hour marker??

The overriding issue for me are the misaligned indeces. The left one is higher than the right one at the 12 position and the the 9 marker is skew-whiff when looked at in line with the logo.

Neat summary Nick.

Doesn't help though that the bezel appears to be one click out.

Yeh, that was just the perspective from camera angle.

To be fair, my original post probably wasn't clear enough about what the 'actual' issue was with the 12 indices.
I guess I wanted to see if someone actually noticed or whether I was just being pedantic :D

Thanks for pointing out the flaw. I had to look 3 or 4 times before I could begin see any misalignment of the 9 o'clock index, and might not be bothered by it at all.....but once one sees the 12 o'clock indices at different heights it becomes quite distracting and troubling.

Quick update ...

Received the watch back from CW this time last week.
Dial was replaced, watch regulated and returned to me in 6 1/2 weeks.

Now I can start to really enjoy it!

Looks great to me. The watch is leaning to the left vis-a-vis the frame of the photo, so that may be taking your eye. Level the tops of the two indices and you will see that they could not be more aligned. Other effects, such as light reflections and lens distortion of the camera, can lead the eye down a primrose path.

Must be a trick of the eye - left marker looks slightly lower than the right, but I'm sure QC would've checked this before posting out.

If the guy with it in his hand says it's level it must be - looks good to me!

Glad to hear it was a free fix, enjoy it :)
