Lotus Seven Club C3

Post by Clach77 »

For those who don't know, the Lotus Seven Club is a club for enthusiasts of Lotus and Caterham 7s. The vast majority of members own a Caterham. In July I started to look into the possibility of a club watch. Today watch 007 arrived at the house. Very pleased I am with it too.

Thanks must to to Richard at CWL who did a huge amount of work and answered questions at all times of day and night. Thanks must go also to akirk who did some initial Photoshop work to show club members what was possible. Without his efforts I don't think so much interest would have been generated. Also gregstar gave me the benefit of his experience of organising a limited edition watch.

Shamelessly stealing some of the forum limited edition processes (sorry Kip) I surveyed what members wanted. This led us to the C3. I met Richard Maidenhead (having drive there in the 7 of course) and went through some designs. The only contentious issue was the 7 - Richard initially preferred a solid 7 whereas I wanted an outline one as per the front of our cars. I have to say it's my favourite feature.

The minimum number to go ahead was 50. Once that number of people confirmed they were interested the design and production run could start. In the end production had to be increased twice - once to 100 watches then to 150. I don't know how many have been sold to this point, but it's over the hundred. I posted that the watches were available to pre-order on a Thursday evening about 8pm and over 30 orders were waiting when CWL opened the next morning. All the initial interest was from Blatchat, the club forum. More orders came when the watch featured in Low Flying, the club magazine. As it stands there are still some available for sale.

Compared to a normal C3, the 3,6 and 9 are reduced in size. The 7 is picked out. The dial is black and the club logo features below the 12. The back has unique engraving. The end result is exactly what we wanted. A watch that is special to club members, but subtle at the same time. Great work by everyone involved at CLW.

My Caterham 7.

Have Blatchatters taken many? I really like that, and if I was a se7en owner - I would get one.

Do you get to the Stonleigh kit car show ever, one year I parked my BMW Z1 on the 7 club stand.
There's always time for one more.

As an ex 7 owner and former blatchatter I do like that a lot.

That is a great lookng watch. Almost makes me want to go out and buy a Lotus 7 just so I could legitimately own one.

And good on CW for doing this with you.

Nice subtle design changes.

BTW may need to modify back pic if you don't want to give out registration no. (notice car pic it's obscured).
Just make sure that Caterham has it's mot by 11 August 2015

Why are people bothered by this?

Far more people see your registration number driving on the road than ever will on a forum (especially one that isn't car-related) so what is the danger?

(Sorry for going OT, but it's something that always puzzled me on car forums I've been a member of in the past)

Watch now edited, and a silly mark added that I didn't want.

Steve - you are right. I'm absolutely delighted with it. It's every bit a good as I could ever have hoped for.

It would be much less expensive just to buy the watch! But then, you'd also have a great fun car if you bought a 7. :D

Thank you for all the positive comments. I'm just pleased it worked out well and there was so much interest from the club.

Congratulations! A job well done. I am glad you insisted on the outlined 7. That is what really makes it stand out.
