I've Gone To The Dark Side ( My Retirement Watch )

Post by malvern_man »

I've been after buying one of these for quite a while now, so, I decided to treat myself to celebrate my retirement after 44 years service at Rolls Royce.

My local Omega AD ( Ernest Jones ) managed to get me a brand new and unopened Apollo 8 DSOTM from their head office, according to the assistant it was the last one that EJ would ever get in ( they've got a few on display in shop windows though ) It was also only the 2nd one that had every been sold at the branch I use.

When I asked about discount I was told that Omega said that they aren't allowed to give any on any of the Apollo variants and Omega monitored the sales to make sure non was given. I said if that was the case then I'd have to have a rethink and maybe look at other Omegas that weren't Apollo variants, after I said that I was given 15% discount.

Here's the photos, Apollo 8 DSOTM....

That looks fantastic. IIRC it’s a 44mm, which is a challenge for some of us....

Nicely done on the discount. Sounds very much like the AD got found out trying to lie to you.... :-"

Congratulations on your retirement! Great looking Speedmaster, it definitely has wrist presence. Two questions, though. Is the dial finish a representation of the lunar surface? And, Omega 1869? What are the differences between it and the 1861 movements?

Congratulations, again, I'm two years away from my self-imposed date. Working for the people, at Amazon, and still enjoying most of what I do.
