I will stick with CW as my first choice:

I also like this Fortis for evenings, simplicity yet elegantly detailed in a 7mm case.

If someone were to ask me "What's the big deal about watches?" or similar, I would point them at this thread.
Surely there is no finer medium for the expression of design-as-art than a watch dial.

EVERYone here has something special they can put on their wrist, make them smile and enjoy what it is to be a human being...and sometimes more :)
I have some favourites here, but that is COMPLETELY not the point: and that's the real beauty of it. Bravo folks!

For me it has to be this:

I keep toying with the idea of selling this watch as it rarely gets wrist time these days; but then I look at that dial and feel I can't let it go. I love all the different layers to the dial and as you move it around in the light the highlights on the central section versus the outer ring cross each other in a beautiful way.

It’s got to be my El Primero. I love how the light catches the details on the dial. Probably this picture captures the effect best and it isn’t something you normally see on the usual photos of this watch.

I have always lusted after this one, nearly got one at one stage.
Fantastic photo of it too.

My apologies, on the pic looks identical to the dial of my Clipperton LE. Thought the Clean Ocean was a tad more turquoise, I actually preferred the Clean Ocean but felt it wore a bit small for me.
These sunburst dials are beautiful and look very different according to the light, difficult to appreciate in a photo.

Of your own watches. your favourite dial?

Both generally and specifically speaking I find chronograph dials to be more interesting than most. The ones I find most specifically interesting are these:

My Zenith EP hand wound. I love the scripted font on the dial and the way that the dial falls away at the edges; it almost wraps down and around the outer rim of the movement... beautifully executed. Some will not like the crunched numbers, but that doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

Image

My Tissot Navigator. I really like the way the hour markers have been drawn, the black subdials but most of all it’s that colour. It’s well known that I love a green dial, but that red fumé dial is *just* gorgeous.

Image

My favourite though (marginally), still belongs to my Japan Racing Speedy. Its sculpted, sunken subdials add depth to the grey dial, but it’s the red and orange combined with that grey that really makes it, IMO, the standout. The colours just work beautifully with the grey providing just that bit more subtlety and even elegance than a black dial provides (and I’ve seen this effect first hand on a black dial - a very good quality redial on a Dynamic).

My favourite dial, indeed, my favourite watch of all time.

Cant disagree Gary, despite being a fan of the red fume Tissot. The speedy is such a standout design and feels quite iconic too, beautiful! For me the racing dial speedy is the pic along with the white (Italian, Alaska, Mitsukoshi) dial models.
