Of your own watches. your favourite dial?

Post by Noush » Sun Feb 09, 2020 12:57 am

Inspired by this piece of horological p0rn from Watchfinder & Co
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo-VRXB8JRU

I'll never have 20,000 quid (or equivalent) to spend on a watch, so the good news is I won't ever have to make the choice between those 3 STUNNERS....

So I guess as much as anything for my own education, I would be fascinated to see from the denizens of this virtual place, as the thread title asks, whatchya got?

I KNOW I'm bringing a butter knife to a gun fight here. But I'm not trying to win anything apart from what I learn.
Can't start a thread like this without putting something up myself. FWIW, the aesthetic pick from my modest little collection is this: Junghans Form C Chronoscope. And yes, it's my only quartz watch....and I can't take a better pic than this.

Like you Noush, I'm not in the position or frame of mind to drop £20k on a dress watch that I would likely not wear.

My favourite dial design, has to be the classic Aviator Chronograph, of which my Type XX Aeronaval LE is so completely fit for purpose.

Two beautiful and different chronograph dials to begin with.

One of the great designs of all time from me. The Cartier Tank has changed very little in over 100 years. There might just be a reason for that; how DO you improve on perfection?

Lovely watches so far gents

I would have to say my GS (also quartz). The contrast between the faceted hands/markers and matte black dial is absolutely gorgeous.
It's simple by design, but the details on the dial are razor sharp and flawless ...

Interesting idea for thread. I think the difficulty may be in separating favourite watch, from favourite dial.

Favourite watch, or favourite watches for me would also include other aspects, such as case, bracelet, size and comfort on the wrist and any backstory behind the purchase.

But if I am sticking to favourite dial on the basis of when I look at it I smile and think “why can’t other brands produce such a fine finish on a watch dial (indices, hands and dial finish etc..) at this price point, then I will pick this one.

Interesting that we have 2 GS watches so far.... fundamentally simple and yet deliciously refined.

Yes indeed, Neil. My favourite WATCH is actually my blue C65 Trident Diver. Its presence, the way it hugs my wrist, the lovely sound of its bezel, the hand-wind connection I have with it...but as you say, it's the "when you look at it...." stuff I wanted to explore.
And for sure there's members here with some gorgeous-looking watches. I really liked that new Speedy II that came up the other day for instance, really nicely done. I hadn't seen that Cartier (well, not amongst members) before and that's quite something.

Bring them on, this is great!

My favourite is the Omega AT, the sharpness of the detail and how it looks different in varying light.

Love the way that the colour changes colour in the light from green to black. Almost impossible to photo - this one is nabbed from elsewhere.

Wore it yesterday to the rugby and again today, I think the deep gloss of the dial on the POLM makes it my favourite.
