The classic shape of the Speedmaster lugs has been changed and the crown guards have gone too, or is that a characteristic of the 39.7mm case?

Nice, although looks kind of ordinary(?). :)

That's the original spec. The twisted lugs and guards were introduced later circa 1967-68.

This is a re-release of the original 'Ed White' Speedmaster from 1963.

Some info here:

https://www.fratellowatches.com/tbt-ome ... -ed-white/

I love it but the price will be outlandish I imagine. It uses a reworked cal. 361 movement so it will be limited numbers.

@It'sAliveJim - thanks for the, educational, info. Sincerely appreciated.

Shows I've still got a huge amount to learn.

I saw the reference to the 'Ed White' in the Three Words thread and followed through to another forum's discussion. Seems like circa £10+ is being speculated.

Paul will an RRP of CHF 13,000 help you resist - don’t think UK price announced yet, but converting and adjusting for different VAT rate, likely to be between £11,000-£12,000!

If you want a Speedy with that case there are far cheaper options. :)

Hmmm, 11K for this, or ~3K for a FOIS if you really want a straight lug case. Not a tough choice. Sadly, it will probably sell out quite quickly to people with more money than brains.

It's a lovely watch but I'll stick with my 50th Anniversary LE.

It does look very nice and a good size but sadly a heap of cash, if indeed you could get your hands on one.

It is expensive. However, it is cheaper than an original Speedmaster with the 321 movement from 1965. I once looked at buying a Speedmaster from this time frame but when good ones were $20k I decided that a new Seamaster was much better for me.

Write up on the Speedmaster 321 'Ed White' featured in today's email from A Blog to Watch

Their closing comments, which somewhat echo those already mentioned here, are;-

While the Speedmaster Moonwatch Chronograph 37 MM is a surprising revival of a legendary reference, perhaps the most surprising aspect of the new watch is the price. The watch is slated to retail for $14,100 when it debuts at Omega authorized dealers in early 2020. While there’s no doubt that the first stainless steel revival of the Calibre 321 and a reissue of a legendary reference is special, it’s undoubtedly steep for a non-precious metal Speedmaster.
