Double Lug Holes!

Post by what-time-is-it » Thu Dec 12, 2019 7:29 pm

Never seen this before, watch arrived on a bracelet so the extra holes were hidden.
Presumably to make it easier to slide through nato's etc - I could always try and fit 4 spring bars for extra security.

Maybe the versions with strap are fitted on the higher holes and bracelet on the lower?

The holes in my GS lugs sit low down meaning that anything other than a strap with thick, padded ends looks naff (to me anyway).

A second set of holes higher up like on your Vic would allow a wider variety of (slimmer) straps to be fitted and not look poop.

Plausible? Who knows ...

I’ve owned one watch that I can recall that had a double set of holes, but I’m struggling to think just what it was. Although I’ve owned a couple of Victorinox watches in the past, I don’t think it was one of those.

As an alternative theory I guess it caters for both thin straps (doesn’t leave a big gap) and thick ones (they fit!). I think the bracelet idea may be more likely as I know that with a couple of Citizen watches if you buy the strap version, the bracelet doesn’t fit as the holes are in different spots. This would make production simpler...

My Dodane 1857 Type 23 Quartz (and the other Type 23 automatic models) have the opposite situation.

They appear to have two screw in bars for the strap/bracelet but actually only have one, with the screws nearer to the case being non-operational.

Rotary Chavitimer has these, used to allow curved spring bar straps that hug the case.
