Review Omega Seamaster Diver 300M with White Dial

Post by gaf1958 »

A topic dear to my heart: a review of a new Seamaster variant. This one is in white...

Dare I say it... I beat them to the punch with the black bezel on white many years ago...

Mind you, I wouldn’t mind the new model in its place...

Hiya Gaf
The new model is particularly nice, you were definitely ahead of the game with the black bezel which IMHO looks great. I previously owned a Seamaster 'Great White' GMT and whilst i really liked the dial, I never really warmed to the bezel.

That is a beautiful looking Omega and an instant favourite with me. The price of a new Seamaster though
I know it's got the master co-ax and ceramic dial, but is that enough for it to become ~£1400 more expensive than the previous model.

I saw one at Watch Time NYC a few weeks ago. It's a lovely thing. I wish they had gone witht he blue bezel from the rest of the Seamaster line though. I already have a white dial black bezel watch (CW C60 SH21) and so it will be difficult for Omega to persuade me to buy one. Maybe if I see it under better lighting I might be persuaded to change my mind, I doubt it though.

Did you mean Gary's watch or the new Omega release ?
Strangely the new Omega photos on the review seem to show 1 watch with blackened hand and marker edges while in another photo it seems to be silver.

But I remembered that the review said it had blackened edges.

So off to the Omega web-site and from their photos it looks like it has black edges on the minute and hour hands and black around the surrounds of the hour markers. Plus black minute and thicker black 5 minute markers.

Apologies if I've read your post wrong but the 2 different versions in the photos is strange anyway.

Nice, though I think I prefer the slimmer hands on my Seamaster:

I meant that gaf1958 always complains about this exact issue.

Also, after having owned a silver hand white dial Omega, I am not surprised at the pictures one bit. When they look black in some pics and silver in another (and maybe red in a third one), it means they are truly silver and they catch the light from whatever they are reflecting. Hence, in this case, they are silver edged not black.

I like this white dialled version of the Seamaster. Are the latest SMP's the the first ceramic dialled Omegas since the PO Liquidmetal LE...not sure.

UK RRP is £4,170 on a bracelet, £3,910 on rubber although you can already get about 20% off these prices on the grey market.

The debate re the hands being silver or black edged reminds me of the debate of the C65 Anthropocene hands. I think the Omega's are silver however it wouldn't really bother me, I always found the white dialled mk2 Tridents decently legible.

The hands-on review in Monochrome article above states the hands and markers are black.

The Omega web-site description of this watch states "blackened" hands so I have to accept that they are blackened edged not silver.

It’s possible that the blackened (but still polished) hands in the second pic have caught the light to appear silver (the reverse of the usual situation). I’d be inclined to believe the review... It’s the one flaw that I wish was corrected in my white SMP.
