Seven styles from seven brands
Seven styles from seven brands
It’s raining outside, time for some Sunday musings.
My style of collecting has never gone down the following path:
- “regular rotation of wearing a different watch each and every day.”
Instead I tend to pick out about three, keep them all running and switch between them over a week or two, before storing away and then picking another group. Rinse and repeat. In this way I never have all my watches available and sometimes end up not returning to a particular watch for months on end.
- “make sure the collection consists of numerous brands, after all there are so many brands to choose from.”
Nope not doing that; I prefer a couple of brands for regular use. No point in trying different brands just for the sake of it. Just stick to the favourites.
- “different styles of watch, with different complications and dial colours are essential to a balanced collection”.
Nope why do that if I have a preference for simple robust SS divers and sports watches.
In view of the above, it’s easy enough for me to select my favourite dozen or so watches. However if I had to choose seven watches, all from different brands, all different styles and all bringing something different to my collection, that is a far more difficult task.
After some thought I have come up with the following, in no particular order.
Will I ever go down this route?
Not at the moment, albeit I am happy that the above gives variety and does cover every situation, even though there were a few difficult choices.

Well, I’m gonna have to think about this one as I’m reducing my collection so might not even have 7 that fit now! Whatever I come up with ain’t gonna compete with those though. What a fantastic selection

Re: Seven styles from seven brands
What a great thread!!..and an even nicer collection!!...good job, sir..
Ebels are a lot like women that lack a lowcut dress that zips up the side..neither gets the love that they deserve..
Re: Seven styles from seven brands
An interesting post that caused me to do a quick check on my own collection, which currently stands at only 13 watches - the lowest number in many years.
Of my 13, I have representatives from 8 brands, so I could just about satisfy that part of the thread title:
The next question was - do I have 7 styles?
I think it's a stretch to give a positive answer to that one but here goes:

Cheers. Though I made the point of not being driven by different styles and those I have shown are all noticeable different, there is still a common thread of the majority being robust with decent WR and a mix of normally worn on strap or normally worn on bracelet. The only one that fails the test of wearing on a Fell when it’s pi**ing down with rain is the Moser. Even that doesn’t necessarily fit with classic dress watch size/dial colour.TigerChris wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2019 12:56 pm Well, I’m gonna have to think about this one as I’m reducing my collection so might not even have 7 that fit now! Well thank you.
A bit more variety than it would have been, if I had posted my most worn seven.
I reckon that does pass the seven styles. But does it pass the “happy to wear all these regularly, if the others were locked away for 12 months?”downer wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2019 3:58 pm An interesting post that caused me to do a quick check on my own collection, which currently stands at only 13 watches - the lowest number in many years.

Thanks Steve. Both ended up being chance purchases. Even though I had admired the Gran Sport line for years, I hadn’t realised there was a chronograph version.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2019 4:32 pm A chance to trot out some nice watches, chaps. Love the Reverso and the Moser, Neil!

And yes you are correct - I had hoped that a few more forumites would put up a selection of seven.

Yes, I think those 7 would be fine. They all get some regular use within my current wear pattern (if such a pattern exists).
The eighth brand I have (and the one not included in my selection) is Casio. My G-Shock has hardly seen the light of day, so I could not say I'd be happy to wear that regularly.

Re: Seven styles from seven brands
certainly some lovely watches on display there gents!
I don't qualify for this one as couldn't cover the 7 different styles as I don't have 7 watches! (In fact I didn't know there were 7 styles)
What I have got is going to be futher reduced before too long I imagine as well.
I always thought the main styles are
diver
gmt
chronograph
dress watch.
Vintage (optional)
Additional catagories always seem an excellent way of justifying a new purchase Nobody wants a gap in the collection after all!

Re: Seven styles from seven brands
A couple of months ago, I would have managed to fulfil the original thread requirement.
No such luck now so will offer my 4 different styles from 4 different brands that cover my needs.
Everyday - Seiko ...
Sports - Oris ...
Dress - Nomos ...
Rough stuff - Casio ...

Nice! @EddieTheBeast; I have been using the price stabilization of Seiko's latest discontinuances as an excuse to buy some JDM models that I've always liked, but never had an excuse to commit to before now. The SARB033 I've been sporting recently has proven to be incredibly versatile; comfy, and able to dress convincingly high or low-brow with a quick strap/bracelet change. I should be receiving its cream-colored cousin, the SARB035, later this week.

Re: Seven styles from seven brands
Interesting to note that the Moonwatch has become a sine qua non of so many forum collections these days.
