New Farer hand wound chronos

Post by sproughton »

Haven't seen these posted anywhere but announced a few days ago; three new hand-wound chronographs from Farer. I've never paid too much notice to them as a brand, other than the Hudson (occasionally modelled by forumite gaf1958) but I'm a big fan of at least two of these...

I like the blue dial Cresta. Sensible size as well and reducing the bronze on the crown to just an insert is, to me, an improvement over previous models.

Look pretty good, though the mix of polished and brushed surfaces seems slightly odd.

They all look very nice. It's great to see a small brand with its own distinct look, colour-wise. The 1st and 3rd pics in particular, you just know these are Farer from the colour schemes, even if there was no logo on either.

Without wishing to cause offence, when I look at many Farer watches I’m tempted to think the designer always uses one more colour than strictly necessary.

If the blue one had a tachymeter on the bezel and the 3 o clock sub-dial had the same colour hand as the other two chronograph hands to match, it'd be spot on!

I clicked the link and thought "Another Mechaquartz job": nope, a real hand cranker. So I'm keeping the link open overnight to try it again in the cold light of day. but jeepers, that main plate is so ugly.

Even so, 37mm is "period" small right?

Tonight the blue Cresta model engages me the most.

But for £1675 what are my alternatives?

Dang! Who got me in trouble here?

1. Insipid

2. Lovely

3. Should be lovely but spoiled by nasty minute dial.

And in the cold morning light I know these aren't for me.

This however, could very well be:

And interestingly I think the one additional colour is what helps these stand out, particularly the green on the black dial one. Probably not something I'd put my money down for, but would be keen to see one in the wild.

Personally I'm not over keen on the first one but 2 and 3 are both very nice. As a brand I do really like styling and even the colours schemes (mostly)
The pictures from forumites always look appealing.

I’d have to agree with you Paul, the first one leaves me underwhelmed, whereas I’d happily wear the other two...

Now they do look good. :)

Also a track record of having produced a previous model(s).
