Oris Sixty-five Diver LE Honey X Revolution

Post by gaf1958 »

I already own two Oris Sixty-fives; an original re-release black dial in 40mm and a green dial in 42mm. I find them to be a really comfortable watch on my wrist, the size is well and truly in my “Goldilocks “ zone. Being quite happy with the two I had, I was nonetheless tempted by some of the (now) many variations that Oris have released.

One such temptation was the bronze bezelled 65. I was very tempted, but at the end of the day there was not enough difference between it and my existing two to make it truly tempting. Another temptation was the 40mm Redbar LE with a beautiful red dial and bronze bezel. Not owning this one has been more of a case of them simply being hard to find (only 100 made).

Then along came the X Revolution LE. A run of 250 commonly referred to as the “Honey”. That’s a good description of the dial colour - it’s not an orange dial; it lies instead somewhere on the gamut between orange and brown, with a lovely fumé dial that darkens at the very edges, giving the impression that the dial curves downward at the edges, away from the viewer. It doesn’t of course, but it’s a great effect visible more so in real life than in photographs. It also has the bronze bezel that matches the dial beautifully. I bought one...

There is a bracelet for this as well; a combination of stainless steel and bronze links which is used on another Sixty-five model with a full bronze bezel (no bezel insert, all bronze) - an example of which is owned by one of our forum members. I’m awaiting delivery of that, so in the meantime I have this on an Oris strap from another model.

One of the things I really like about the Sixty-five compared to many other faux-vintage watches is that the box sapphire crystal is high with large radius curves - making it look very much like an old acrylic crystal. The majority of box sapphires have tight curves meaning that the play of light through the crystal is not seen to the same extent as on the baby Oris.

Now, some pics...

The 65s are a lovely family of watches Gary and this is no exception! Just lovely. Enjoy.

Nice one Gary (as the Aussies would shout to Nathan Lyon!) Lovely dial colour, though I still prefer the 65 model with the retro numbers at 3/6/9/12. Beach is looking rather tempting, hope you're enjoying the Ashes as much as me! Hopefully see you when I'm across in '21 for the next Ashes tour. Gary.

I don't really know the Oris 65 ranges, and the differences between versions, but what I do know is that I really like that watch.

It is, as one might say, a curvy honey (bit like Gina Lollobrigida or Holly Willoughby).

See what you mean about the curves of the crystal, Gary. Best of both worlds.

Reckon it will look pretty damn gorgeous on the bracelet.

Interesting selection of straps. Not sold on the beige suede NATO though.

Good to see you back Gary, doing what you do best - posting pictures from the beach.

Oris is one of my favourite brands, and the 65 has become their signature in my opinion. The bronze-edged bezel has been a simple change but one that’s transformed the character of the watch from a tool watch almost to a dress watch, and it works really well with the honey dial.

Nice shots and write up, as ever.

I've misted up the shop window staring at this one a few times (or whatever the online equivalent is - probably doesn't bear thinking about).

I think the fifth photo does a good job of showing that it's not a purely orange dial, in contrast to the official marketing shots. Would be nice to see it side-by-side with the CW bronze Ombres for comparison.
Rich.

Not that familiar with Oris, like the look of the watch but not so keen on the pale brown strap. The darker one looks much better, I wouldn't put it on a bracelet personally the dark strap looks great and goes with the colour of the face, and bezel perfectly.

Thanks Gary, you mean this one (which I still own):

As to the Ashes mate, let’s just say it’s a nice change from the last few years when we used to cringe when, or perhaps if, we admitted to being an Aussie cricket fan. :)

‘21 eh? You’re clearly capable of planning further ahead than I’m built to do.

Haha, anyone care to post an Ombre downunder for the comparison?

But you’re right, it’s purely an orange dial, although it the right lighting ... it can be!

Despite the differing opinions re the bracelet (I’m hoping it’ll look great, and a bit different from everything else I own), I do agree that the light brown suede NATO does not show it at its best. I did briefly have it on a dark grey strap with very bold orange stitching, but eventually decided that it didn’t suit (I originally bought it to pair with my Japan Racing Speedy (grey dial, orange highlights)).
