Are the bronze centre links bronze all the way through (i.e. where it touches your wrist) or do they have a steel lining to save the wrist from discolouration?

Bronze for the full circumference of the centre links.

Pilot style watches look good in bronze but not many other watches, it can be a bit marmite I guess

I like them raw, when patinated I can’t understand why anyone would want a worn or dirty look on a wristwatch.

In some ways not entirely unrelated to Steampunk. Again, something I’m not a huge fan of. And at the risk of repeating myself, I have always said that if you want to watch that looks old, buy an old watch!

All a bit Dark Materials meets Mortal Engines for my taste...

My only bronze watch to date. Although I believe it may have been nickel plated at one time.

A little off piste for this thread but an interesting copper dial, and surprisingly affordable for Ming

That’s pretty lovely. Looks like it could be brass rather than bronze? I have a few vintage pieces where the silver-coloured-plating or gold plate has been worn away, and they look like that underneath. I have wondered about finishing the job and buffing the rest of the plating away.

I suppose if I was savey enough to know what solution to apply, it could be discerned what alloy is present by the resulting reaction. Or I could, God forbid, GOOGLE it.
At any rate, thanks for the feedback. Possibly the only one I've seen, with what I believe to be, the original strap. A leather wrapped, spring steel affair with no buckle.

Yes, I think it's brass too. So many older watches were made from plated brass before stainless became more available and affordable and as a result so many older watches are heavily pitted and scored where the nickel has eroded away showing a multitude of dark scars. Replating by a specialist is an option but rarely cost effective.

That works for me, different alloy, nearly the same effect. Pretty sure in this case the strap completes the package. I have seen other examples, online of course, but with the plating chipped and the underlying brass pitted. Not sure how this came to be in this condition as I have only owned it a few years. I did have it fully serviced recently, I just need to find more occasions to wear it. :D

^ It either came raw or was cleaned. No way the nickel plating came off so completely in all the books and crannies with normal wear and tear. Someone’s taken a rag to it, and done a pretty decent job. It looks like something Piers could have done with his Pinions.

@watchaholic can you show how the strap works? Looks an odd one.
