I’ll add another vote for Tutima. I’ve owned the odd Tutima diver and they’re outstanding quality - similar quality to an Omega Seamaster in my opinion, in the days before Omega went a bit bling.
Quartz watch suggestions (not Christopher Ward)

Re: Quartz watch suggestions (not Christopher Ward)
I think I have made a decision. I appreciate all of the input, which I think has helped to solidify my original thought of getting the CWC RN Diver.
I will probably get the MkI version with the mineral crystal and 60 click bezel as it is the closest version they currently sell (besides the special edition with the "T" for tritium on the dial) to the original RN diver issued version. It is only £499 and they refund the 20% VAT as I'm in the USA, making it £415. They have a MKII version of the same watch, that looks identical for £679 with the crystal upgraded to sapphire crystal and with a 120 click bezel. I usually prefer to have sapphire crystal on my watches, but in this case I will probably get the mineral crystal version as that was what was on the original issue watch.
I had considered their 1983 Quartz diver, but am not keen on the faux patina and the "T" for tritium on the dial when they no longer use tritium. Not to mention it is £899, compared to their standard £499 diver.
Anyway, this seems to be an inexpensive way to get a nice looking classic military diver with a quartz movement, which has some link to historically issued military watches. Not to mention it looks very similar to the vintage big triangle version of the Omega Seamaster 300, which can go for around $8,000 to $10,000 nowadays.

Fine looking piece, Malcolm. Good decision.

Re: Quartz watch suggestions (not Christopher Ward)
as you have buckets of cash left over in your budget, why nit buy a spare quality quartz?
quite a few of us have one of these and not heard a bad word said about it (you should find one much cheaper if you look around too)

So many watches, yet still so little time!

Re: Quartz grwatch suggestions (not Christopher Ward)
Great choice, I've had mine for 4 years and have never babied it but it still looks mint without a scratch despite the mineral crystal.

Thanks for posting the images Matt. It's good to hear it still looks good after 4 years.
