Buying back your old watches

Post by atnits » Tue Jun 25, 2019 5:14 pm

I don't know about you lot, but watches I hanker after are often ones that I used to own. (I look forward to re-owning C5 aviators, for example.)

I recently had the chance to buy back one of my previous purchases. I last owned it about 7 years ago.

Good to see my original envelope and writing from 7 years ago:

And here we are:

To be fair, the last thing I need is another watch; I need to sell rather than buy. But for some reason I seem quite happy.

Interesting. For me once I have decided to move a watch on, that's it. I usually agonise over it for months before pulling the trigger.

There is only one watch I miss - slightly, now and then - a Rolex which I wore for 25 years and decided that it no longer suited. Nowadays I'm not so sure but I wouldn't buy another.

Nice to be re-united though!

I've almost done this but bought a different dial colour of the same model of watch watch. I'm coming up to to two years with it and wouldn't think of selling it. But is also think about buying the light dial again

That'll be the Club? A great watch for sure.

Sorry Anthony, but I posted my reply earlier without really reading your initial post in full.

Speedbird is really smart and looks to be in fabulous condition still, can see why you were inclined to buy it back.

As to my buy back exploits, succinctly (as far as I can recall without resorting to my excel spreadsheet record of my collection), the following have been in / out / in and maybe out again of my collection;-

C8 MkI Cream dial
C9 2011 FLE
C70 MkII BRG
C11 Makaira Elite / Extreme

Bulova Lunar Pilot
Elliot Brown Canford Clipper
Elliot Brown Canford Custom
Oris Pilot Chronograph
Parnis Sterile Flieger 47
Seiko Orange Monster Gen1

NB> There may be others. :D

I'm dang sure I posted a reply to this last night so where did that go?

My confession is that I currently possess the following "second time around" watches:

CW C60
CW C60 Chrono - the big blue beast
Seiko Alpinist SARB017 - third time around in this case and showering it with straps in the hope of making it stick this time
Omega Speedmaster Schumacher yellow dial - and still failing to bond
Seiko 7T34 Flightmaster with panda dial
Seiko 7T84 Velatura Yachting Timer

How do I justify this behaviour? We're all entitled to learn as we go along. Sometimes watches get flipped out to make way for another.
I've had a go with most CW models in the true spirit of online buying - get it, try it, keep it or flip it! White C60 Mk2, Black C60 Mk2 GMT and the big blue beast!

The only watch I've bought back was a Citizen Windsurfer D060. I lost the original a long time ago (long story involving the ROH) and decided to buy another one last year. Otherwise, once it's gone it's gone.

Just realised that of the 5 watches in my current collection, I've sold and bought back 4 of them. I'm obviously slacking. I need someone to buy and then sell me back my Breitling - then I'll have the full set.

I have done it twice with the gold C5 MKI and the C70 DBR1.

Same model, not the exact same watch.

When they are gone, they stay gone. That has been my policy so far, and I don’t see it changing.
