If you want to buy a Rolex
Re: If you want to buy a Rolex
For pity’s sake, it’s a fair to middling wrist watch now being hyped up to within an inch of its life through securing low supply!!!!
Give it a rest and they might go away.

Re: If you want to buy a Rolex
Chatting with an AD today, was told from November some Rolex servicing will be done in-house as WoS group have invested in some specialist machinery.
Also was mentioned new Rolex watches sold by WoS group companies will come with an additional 5 year guarantee. So 10 years in total.
Didn't try anything on, all they had was a small yachtmaster.

^^^^^ Interesting move by WOS re. the additional 5 years. They probably have enough data to know that with the reliability of Rolex models it won’t have a significant cost implication, whilst providing peace of mind to owners and enhancing preowned values. Certainly shows their confidence in the product.
There are already a few independent watchmakers who are fully accredited to perform Rolex servicing (I.e they have the required specialist equipment and access to Rolex parts).

Re: If you want to buy a Rolex
I got my Rolex submariner (no date) from Goldsmiths in August this year. It came with the additional 5 year guarantee.
Have to say was not expecting it, but to me a nice add on.

Re: If you want to buy a Rolex
Probably costing them nothing, other than good PR and more servicing which must make them plenty. Forgot to ask whether the watch needs a service every 4 years to benefit from the full guarantee.nbg wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2019 6:42 pm ^^^^^ Interesting move by WOS re. the additional 5 years. I may have misheard the figures, but he mentioned someone wanted to service a 1969 GMT and they quoted £4 or 5k...

Re: If you want to buy a Rolex
IIRC there are two different service menus used by Rolex and Rolex accredited watchmakers. The basic distinction is between the current and more recent sapphire crystal models and the earlier plexiglass models. I think that the service costs for the older models being about 40-%50% more.what-time-is-it wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 3:43 pm I may have misheard the figures, but he mentioned someone wanted to service a 1969 GMT and they quoted £4 or 5k...
A quote of £4K-£5k would imply something of a “Triggers Broom” service - normal service, plus new dial and hands, new bezel insert, new case and new bracelet!
An ideal way to spend a large amount on a service and get back a minty watch that is probably worth less than it was before the service.

Correct. There are separate plans based on age.nbg wrote:IIRC there are two different service menus used by Rolex and Rolex accredited watchmakers. Oh, and of course the pain in the arse issue of the DeepSea having to go back to the factory for its service as the service centres can't do it!!

Chris,
I was advised by the AD, that my Sub does not need a service until about 10 years old. Funnily after both warranties have expired.

Re: If you want to buy a Rolex
If they are like other Rolex ADs in this area the windows are stocked with the less desirable models and there's not a SS model to be seen amongst them.
If you're forced to stock something why continue to have so much capital invested in items that don't sell well - don't bother with that brand if they can't/won't supply sufficient quantities of popular SS watches.

Re: If you want to buy a Rolex
The SS sports watches aren't in the window because they've sold them with a phone call as soon as they arrived.Mikkei4 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2019 11:48 am If they are like other Rolex ADs in this area the windows are stocked with the less desirable models and there's not a SS model to be seen amongst them.
