Am I a lost cause?

Post by Bahnstormer_vRS » Tue Sep 18, 2018 7:34 pm

I posted this in a topic last night;-

For me, with the size of my current collection, I'm a lost cause. :problem:

Well this morning I went for a wander around Llandudno which has a wonderful Victorian Promenade and Pier.

... .. but more importantly I took a wander around the shops, in particular the jewellers.

Goldsmiths was disappointing as the only brands of note they stocked were TAG Heuer and Tissot, plus a selection of fashion brands.

There was an independent jeweller with nothing new but some nice pre owned pieces including an LE broad arrow Speedmaster and broad arrow Seamaster. I quite liked the look of a '90s Longines Conquest with date at 12, Chronograph, gold indices and hands but it was approaching £2k, and I was not comfortable with this.

At the other end of the' High Street' though I found a smaller independent jeweller with 30% off everything, as he is closing next week upon retirement.

There were a couple of new watches in the window that I recognised, so went in.

Long story short, I came out 15 minutes later with a new watch, which is a bit of a Forum Darling, and just my sort of watch.

Any guesses?

One clue for starters; it has a wavy pattern to the black dial (bit like a C60 Trident).

Nice idea and would have been nice, but that would be more than the Longines Conquest, so no.

It's not a Swiss Made brand.

I'm not sure whether it's a forum darling, but doesn't the Aquis come with a wave dial?

At least an older model did I think. Would it be that?

Edit - then I read the not Swiss made

Seiko SBDC055 PADI.

Agree Llandudno is naff for watches, didn't find anything interesting when I visited last year and that was another windy day.
Current collection incl Alpina, Breitling, Casio, Citizen, Eterna, Oris, Rado, Rolex, Seiko, Tag, Timex & Tudor.

Coincidentally Guy, I've only been to Wales once, to Llandudno as a 4 year old (c. 1970) with my parents and baby brother. And where did we stay...the hotel in your photo, the Grand Hotel, which looks like it is still going strong nearly 50 years later :)

The half minute which we daily devote to the winding-up of our watches is an exertion of labour almost insensible; yet, by the aid of a few wheels, its effect is spread over the whole twenty-four hours.

You're on the right track Chris (all too quickly).

Continuing on the right track.

This would have been good for me when riding the motorbike I had in the '80s; a Suzuki GS650 Katana.

I did see some Bulovas elsewhere, including a couple of very attractive Curv models.
