I like the 1920s crown. Shame about the subdial eating the numerals. Decent price at £179.10 shipped!

Agreed.
Hopefully 'the subdial eating the numerals' is something I can live with - only time will tell!
However for the price (£179.10 shipped) I decided to go for a 1920's AV-4058-02

I like the 1920s model and I'm pleased to see they've finally upper the ante to include a sapphire crystal in the spec, rather than their previous mineral crystal as standard. Very good value.

First time i’ve ever looked on their website. Some great looking watches on there. The retrograde chronograph appeals to me

I haven't an issue with people liking this brand but it's worth bearing in mind it's origins are in Hong Kong and China and the owners are a company registered at Companies House, with Directors based in Hong Kong. The last time I checked the address of Avi-8 in the UK, it was a watch repairers somewhere t'up north if I recall correctly.

Nothing wrong with being up north :). I ve a couple of these and they are decent workaday watches, quite good looking. The quality in the hand is about on a par with Ingersoll. Not terrible, cheap, decent looking and if you are working/visiting somewhere 'questionable' you d not cry if a man with a bat decided to take it off you. Equally appealing enough to look 'serious' in a meeting

Oh yes, being t'up north wasn't meant to be derogatory. I was previously based there and back in the day, had the circumstance been different, I would have happily relocated there, but it wasn't to be.

My issue wirh AVI-8 is simply the fact they try to cover up their origins. They are from Hong Kong (Solar Time) and the watches are designed and manufactured there. They have as much to do with Britain as tropical sunshine. The address t'up north is the service centre they use (legit company). Their actual UK address is an accountants in Andover. In their stable of watches are brands such as Ballast and Earnshaw.

At their concession at the Siam Paragon Mall / Department store in Bangkok, I was told they are a British company and that the watches were manufactured in the UK as well. Very naughty.

A couple of years ago you could buy an Avi 8 watch on the Bid TV shopping channel for around £75!

Treyford, it does appear that I have a preference for cathedral hands especially on "vintage" watches :D
Gary, yes, so far so good. I hope that this evening I'll have time to unwrap it and take some pics.
