The design was consciously influenced by the Canford, but that said, it’s very much its own watch, and in some ways, I think the changes we made have improved the design over the Canford.
The taller case and bezel change the side profile compared to the Canford, but in a smaller diameter, I think they work beautifully. And the more spacious dial, where the numerals are reduced in size and moved further outboard stop it feeling crowded.
It took a lot of work, but we think the details were worth the work.
We also changed the crown design, changing from diagonal knurling to parallel knurling, to echo the slightly squarer design of the case.
The bevel around the circumference of the glass was created in order to let more light into the dial; Rolex do something similar with their Explorer II but in a different way, and we set the glass down below the bezel a fraction in order to protect with the hardened bezel.
The hardening changes the surface finish a little; it ‘warms’ the colour from the usual cold grey stainless steel colour, and it also alters the texture of the polished components a little; on the brushed and plated versions, it’s not so visible.
Glad you like the caseback. As we imagined the fully hardened version to be more of a tool watch, we didn’t think a sapphire back was correct.
The design is similar to the Canford and Bloxworth backs, with the EB shield done a little differently - it’s flatter and squarer - and it also has the addition of the contour lines from Tyneham Cap around it; similar to those we use inside our rubber straps.
The external box material is specific to the Tyneham, although we might use a similar interior for our ‘standard’ models going forward, as we like the precision of the foam.
But the external material is likely to remain specific to the Tyneham.
In the meantime, I felt the mid-brown nubuck strap on my Tyneham looked a touch bland, on my wrist at any rate, so I've bought the dark-brown waxed strap from one of the other models. Gives a good contrast against the silver dial and looks better suited to my wrist.

Very interesting Guy! That strap suits the Tyneham perfectly. I would love to be able to be able to wear the smaller Tyneham.
EB seem to be an extremely approachable company with hugely loyal fans, which should stand them in great stead.
Oberonphoto, does this indicate that you have also expressed an interest in the Canford Submariner and thus received an email from Alex?
It should also be noted, whilst they will only be available to those who have earned the right to wear the coveted RN Submariner Dolphins, a charitable contribution of £50 will be made to the wider SM community from the sale of each watch sold
Yes - I earned my Dolphin aged 20 on HMS/M Opossum and have wore them with pride since. The Canford is a nice looking watch and i have placed my order for the Jolly Rodger one. I also notice CWL are doing a quartz C60 'Submariner" as well just now.

Just came across this thread a couple of days ago. Though I hadn't heard about EB before I'm really impressed. I thought it was a bit expensive with the Miyota movement, but according to the website they are pretty much out of stock, so I guess I was completely wrong. The black one and the grey one really does it for me. Congrats to the lucky buyers!

So I have ordered a D05
The Canford remains on the wish list.
Strange. I used to own a 003 Canford and have now got the D03 Tyneham (although mine has a fully hardened case and case back).
The D05 is a good looking watch. The dark grey sunray dial should be a corker.
If you are still after a Canford, this one popped up on eBay yesterday. Although not specified, it looks like a 202-001-L06 (white dial, blue markers, black strap). I think Scrogg has one (on a bracelet).
