My Latest Incoming

Post by Viognier » Wed Dec 19, 2012 8:13 pm

Hello All,

In my initial introduction to quality watches I briefly owned a Hamilton Field Officer mechanical watch. Really enjoyed the handwind, however the shorter Hamilton issued strap and movement visibility through only the porthole on the back caused me to move it on.

Since then I've been wanting another mechanical watch. The CW 2011 C9 FLE was too much of a stretch for me dollar wise so I've been chasing a Steinhart Nav-B UHR 44mm handwind or a Victorinox Ambassador XL to jump back into the mechanical watch world.

Lucked into the Victorinox locally on the weekend and I've been wearing for the past three days. Here are the specs, some quick initial comments and a few photos.

Model - V251073
Movement: ETA Unitas 6498 mechanical handwind
Case Size- 45mm stainless steel
Case back - Full exhibition
Dial Colour - Blue
Crystal - Saphhire front and caseback (anti-reflective)
Power Reserve - 46 hours

This watch is a joy to wind, something I look forward to each day I have worn it. The power reserve has been virtually spot on at 45.5 hours on a full wind. It wears very comfortably on my 8 1/4" wrist and the stock Victorinox Charcoal Leather strap with grey contrast stitching suits the watch. I am also pleased that the strap is long enough for those of us with larger wrists.

I really enjoy watching the movement through the full exhibition back of this watch....just a little workhorse spinning away! A critique for Victorinox is the decoration is quite basic and in my opinion, pales in comparison to both the Steinhart Nav-B UHR 44mm (slightly higher price point) and the Christopher Ward C9 2011 FLE.

I also am enjoying the small seconds feature at 6pm and find it does not detract from the readability of the watch. Also has the 24 hour clock notations on the inner watch dial.

Victorinox discontinued the Amdassador XL series back a couple of years, so the private watch sale forums or eBay will be sources for any who like what they see.

Previoulsy owned pricing varies depending on condition between $200 and $325 dollars (against an initial MSRP of $695).

Making myself a Caprese Salad for lunch so attempted basic WingTsun props for interest!

Looks good. I like the oversized subdial. Enjoy it!

I like it. It's unusual to see a blue-dialled hand winder, and I like the applied numerals and large sub-dial.

Sounds like a bargain too!

Congrats. :)

I am inclined to agree with the others, liking the sub dial and the watch in general, maybe it's a big big for me but for the prices you quote it's a steal

The half minute which we daily devote to the winding-up of our watches is an exertion of labour almost insensible; yet, by the aid of a few wheels, its effect is spread over the whole twenty-four hours.

Great pickup, and a very nice color indeed!

Would be starting a strap hunt if I were you :) a light brown suede maybe?

Very nice looking piece. I must get something with an exhibition back I feel I am missing out on part of the fun of watch ownership.0

I like that a lot. Thanks for showing. I saw one on ebay a while back but dismissed it as I didn't want to pick up a bargain only to be stung by customs. Pictures like yours really show it off.

The number of hand winds in my collection is creeping up and I foresee more in the future. There really is something pleasurable about winding them.

lovely watch
Got a couple of victorinox myself and really like the current range. Quality seems excellent throughout. I went to the victorinox flagship store in london recently and could have spent squillions!

congrats and enjoy!
Cheers now
